Well here is a weekends worth of work. The fenders are stripped along with the roof. Let the mud begin haha. I HATE BONDO!! As you can tell, I took your guys' advice and shaved the Scottsdale badge. Things are starting to move along

I'm doing the same thing with my truck right now too

Except I am priming it right away becuase I am still driving around with the truck. I can park it in my shop if there is rain in the forecast, but its a bit of a mud bog to get back there, lol

Truck looks pretty cool in bare metal. It would be cool to see someone build a 73-87 and leave it in bare metal form, like the alumnatruck or alumnacoupe from Boyd Coddington.

yeah i know what you mean. the look of raw metal after it has been gone over with an angle grinder looks sweet. if i didnt have to use any filler, thats what i would do. sort of a delorian (sp?) truck haha. Btw, my friends and I deemed the project “the farm truck gone urban” ha

Looks good, man. Why are you stripping the whole truck? If there is not too much paint on it, the factory paint and primer is the best primer you can use, as it is baked on. If your truck is peeling, strip the color and use the factory primer, if possible.

it is hard to see in the picture, but there is a long crease in the bottom of the door that goes all the way up to the middle. its not deep, but they are the biggest pain to work out!

Jonboy- i am trying to save as much of that primer as i can (that bare fender came from a junk yard), i just dont trust the paint since it is pealing just about everywhere

I started working at a GMC dealership in 93, and my job was to sand all of the peelers that came in. GM, in their infinite wisdom, decided that the best way to paint one of the peeling vehicles was to strip all of the paint, and just sand the E-coat. It doesn't work the best in application, but I can see the theory. Just trying to save you a lot of trouble stripping the whole truck. A lot of the blue should blow off with just air pressure.

yeah, this truck in no way will be a show truck. i just want it to look nice. i plan on spending about 2500 on paint, 2000 to 3000 on wheels and tires, and 2500 on a 350. and a grand on other random things like a front end rebuild kit and thoes small little parts that add up. just a well rounded weekend toy. thanks for your advice jonboy

another week has past.. here are the new pics i took today about three hours ago. the drivers side is done. other than the door because i will be getting a NOS one. still a little high on the fender too. HALF WAY DONE!!!!!!!!!
