can you have the axels of a 6 lug rear end for 5 lug? If so is it a big deal or can any machine shop do it? The reason I ask is that my next possible truck is a 69 CST big block with air, t400 tranny and a posi rear end. I already have the 5 lug rims and front spindles from a 72.

I have had a couple of sets of 6-lug axles redrilled for 5-lug. Any competent machine shop should be able to handle it.

Thanks, how much did you pay for that? I had a 12 bolt rear end out of a 66 chevelle once that had two bolt patterns on it.

It's been a few years, but it was $75.00 for a pair back then.

me and 6772king just redrilled my 5 bolts to a 5 on 4 3/4 pattern...we put a car wheel up in a lathe and hogged the center hole out so it fit tight on my axel then just transfer punched it and drilled...

...not at all..even drilled it by hand..pilot hole first of course

heck just go the the junk yard and get aset out of a 76 down twelve bolt . we put a set in a friends 70 with no problems.

That worked because your friend's truck was a later model '70, they started making wider rears in the middle o fthe '70 model year. 71 up axles WILL NOT work in a 69 rear end, they are abotu 3/4 inches longer if I remember correctly.
