Water pump install
Putting on a new water pump and alternator this weekend. Getting ready for some e-fans. The alternator is easy, but I've never taken a water pump off before. Any tips or links to good articles about this? Thanks!

Water pumps are pretty easy to install.
Drain the radiator, remove the fan, alternator (and brackets), PS (and brackets), then remove the lower radiator hose and upper radiator hose if you choose to do so. After that simply unbolt the water pump. Now would also be a good time to make sure your hoses, thremostat, and belts are in good shape...it is alot easier to replace those now that everything is apart. Also, if you are a detail freak like me, it is also a good time to clean up the engine and put some new paint on it if you like. That is pretty much it (I think), installing it is just as easy, just be sure to get new gaskets and use silicone or gasket sealer so you don't get any leaks.

Any time I do a water pump, I replace the timing chain and gears unless I know for sure that they are in good shape. It is easy to do when the water pump is off, and the parts are cheap.

slonaker has a good idea. but i would just pull the timing cover and check the chain and gears out. getting the actual waterpump off and back on is pretty easy.
what electric fans are you gettin? |

I didn't do the water pump yet. I put on a 94 amp alt. though.
I was going to get the NAPA hi-perforamance water pump for $89, but I just checked out Stewart water pumps and there stage 1 pumps are cheaper, $74. After s/h and a couple of tubes of sealant the total to my door is $90. I'm glad I waited on the NAPA pump!

As I have stated many times, beware of the manufacturers rating on their fans. A electric fan will pull around 100 cfm for every 1 amp. No way will you get 2950 cfm from 9.5 amps.

lol, when I get closer to buying them, I'll check back with ya and see how yours are still running. If they haven't acted up then I might try'em out.

I have 1 16" ProForm fan and 1 10" summit high performance fan on mine and it keeps it cool off-road so far, although it will get warm sometimes still under heavy loads like slow steep hills. On the street I don't usually ever need them unless I get stuck in traffic.

I also have the same fans as Dave and Eric. I love mine and only problem I've had was with the temp control. It came on when it got too hot outside even when the truck was off Now I have them to a manual control switch and only have them on when I'm in heavty traffic where I'm not getting any airflow in the radiator.
