update!

got the exhaust on it. man does it sound sweet

runs so much better with pipes on it. its still really boggy accelorating though. i have to drop it down to 2nd gear to pass people on the highway.

i checked the tranny fluid and it was to the fill line, so i filled it up, and now its at the full line i hope that helps some. if i hit the gas pretty hard from a stop it doesnt really bog down, but it takes a long time to accelorate and then it kicks in real quick, but it still goes slower than it should. i know most of that is my gearing(2.73's and my 2500 stall)

i have a couple exhaust leaks from the header bolts being loose, so i'm gonna fix those as soon as the engine cools down some.

it also is diesling a little bit, not like the runon with my electric fans hooked to the ignition fuse, but a real diesling. is my timing to far advanced?

also, i borrowed a friends autometer sportscomp tach, but i cant get it to work with my msd stuff how in the world does it hook up? i know i have all the connections right, the green wire goes to the msd box, red wire goes to 12v switched source, white wire goes to power for the light, and the black is ground.

Those gears + that stall is surely killing your power. I have 3.42's but a pretty small cam and stock converter and its decent on the freeway.

What mufflers are you running BTW?

they arent, i can feel when they kick in.

its my gears and stall. i can feel whenever it reaches the stall speed and then it seems to have so much more power, but only if i keep the rpm's up. from a stop, its dog slow.

Now go hold the brake and bring up the converter and stab it. Then report back how much tire smoke you left.

gears are cheap--replace them and you'll be much happier

Deiseling then you have some issues. Probably timing. Is it pinging a LOT under load? Sounds lie too much advance to me and it can kill your power if it's pinging. A bunch are finding the timing mark is inacurate becaus the outer ring on the HB has slipped. I know it's off on my 88 454. I think it's off on the 75.

Get a 3.42 or 3.73 and it will feel like a rocket. Honestly you might just look around and see if you can find a complet axle assembly. You caould probably score a axle for less then it will cost you to buy the gears and if you can't install the gears then expect to spend about $300 in labor on top of $200 for gears and a set up kit.

Or maybe look for a 12 bolt. They should be in a lot of trucks 73-80. It should bolt right in. You would probably have decent luck finding a 3.73 posi unit, too.
