Unhappy Member Down for the Count

ToonMan Out for the Count!!!

Since my Daughter Cassi has taken up basketball, my wife and I decided to dig out my Basketball hoop from behind our Garage Sale Filled Carport, and set it up where Cassi and her friends could use it. Because of it's location, it needed to be disassembled, lifted over a 6' Cyclone fence, and carried out through our neighbors front yard. Plan in place!!!
I set down an old milk crate and used it as a step to climb up on to the base to take down the backboard and rim. All was going well until my size 14 feet slipped off of their 4 inch square plastic perch. I fell down against the pole, then down onto the milk crate that was firmly in place up against one of the Garage Sale tables. My shin hit the crate HARD!!!!! I couldn't move my foot that was stuck between the crate and pole stand for 5 minutes!!! But eventually I got up, and continued to work, limping the whole time. Angie and our neighbor Bud both thought I should see a Doctor, but I knew I was OK!!
After the pole was re assembled, I jumped in my pickup and ran to the hardware store to get a net for the rim. Pushing the clutch in caused EXTREME pain!!!! I got to the store and walked in. A walk that was very painful!! I came home and told Angie that I thought I should go to the Doctor. I jumped in the shower got dressed and headed up.
We ended up spending 3 1/2 hours at the Urgent Care facility where I found out
that I BROKE MY LEG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes I fractured my left Fibula just below the knee. I couldn't have been more shocked!! Yes I knew it hurt, but Fractured!!!!!
The Doctor explained that when I hit the milk crate my foot slid to the bottom of the crate and my shin hit the solid edge, but with my foot wedged between the pole
stand and the crate, it caused a twisting motion, that snapped the bone!!!
Now I am at home on the computer instead of at work, and will be for a while!!!
So, If you know of anyone needing some Auto Art done.......I now seem to have the time!!!!!!!
I really did it this time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn, I cringed in pain the entire time I was reading that. I know what you mean about not believing it was broken... some breaks are like that. The hairline ones, the ones that don't snap the bone in two, can be hard to tell. It hurts lime a sum*****, you know that much, but you're like "Hmm... I dunno. Not sure if it's broken." Without going to the doctor, the only way you learn for sure is how long it takes to heal. I broke my thumb a couple of years ago but wasn't sure if it was broken. I didn't go to the doctor. Thought it might have been a real bad sprain. Anyhow, after like a month of barely being able to move the thumb and intense pain anytime I put pressure on it, I figured it was safe to assume I broke it.

That really sucks man, sorry to hear about it. Good luck to you and a speedy recovery. Glad it wasn't worse (it always can be). Take care, and don't do anything that could jeopardize your healing process.

hydro clutch it, less pedal effort means less stress on the leg.

i broke my foot when i was in college, and had to drive 150 miles home in a manual transed Ford Ranger. i know your pain man! what doesnt kill you only makes you stronger, and a broken leg sure as hell wont kill you. hope your truck withdraws dont get too bad.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I had a walker cast for 11 months when I was young and foolish. Broke my foot in basketball. (Maybe us old farts should ban everything to do with that game!!) Thanks to the walker cast I was able to drive my clutch, but that was a Pinto, that is until a police officer saw what I was doing!

Good luck on a fast heal.

Can feel your pain. Slipped on some ice last Friday and caught the edge of a lift of 2 x 10's with the rib cage. Lumber is fine, I suffered 7 cracked ribs and a very badly bruised left arm. Hurts only when you breathe or roll over on it when trying to sleep. Accidents can happen so fast. Truck will have to wait for a while. Got three weeks before my son comes home for a week from University and wants to work on his 80 GMC short box. Better stock up on Tylenol.

Hey Rob, good luck in healing man! Broken anything sucks. I have had both the bones in my left arm broken right before the wrist, and a week after I got that cast off I broke 3 bones in my right wrist

I twisted my ankle in November when I stepped in a hole at the local Pick-n-Pull. It has been swollen and painful ever since. I found out this week that I tore the ligaments and that I have a bone chip in the joint. I need surgery to repair it, and I will be on crutches for 6 weeks. I am going to schedule the surgery for next month, after final exams. <sigh>

One day at a previous job a guy fell down the freight elevator shaft (two stories) that was being built. He was up and walking around. he finally went to the doc.. he had broken both his legs, arms and his pelvis. Doc said he was in so much shock he couldnt feel the pain. That was freaky. Good luck and take care of yourself.
