build sheet info

Is there anyway to find out what the original color and specs of a 1970 Blazer, other than the missing sticker from the glove box?

The glovebox option sheet was the only way to tell unless you have the "build sheet". The build sheet was a piece of paper that listed what was to be put into the blazer or truck option wise and the guys at the factory used the build sheet to build the blazer up. Some guys have found their build sheets under the seat or ? but not too likely. I have a real original blazer and even have the Protecto Plate and NO build sheet.

You used to be able to get a print out from GM on what some of the basic things that were in your truck. But back then there were no data bases kept so finding out your original color is going to be harrd with out the option sheet in your glove box.

I've heard of the infamous Protecto Plate before, but not sure what it is exactly. Can anyone epxplain? Is it the sticker in the glove box?

Sometimes you can look up under the dash and see original paint. Most people who repaint don't get 100% coverage, unless they do a complete restoration. I found my original color by taking the door panels off and finding the original over spray (hope they are the original doors...)

Here is a pic of the Protect-O-Plate....
It was the original owners New Vehicle Warranty. They stamped the owners info and the blazer or trucks info in the plate and then they knew the owner had the warranty for warranty work.

It was a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty!!! then there was a 5 year 50,000 mile extension that covered powertrain.

It could be transferred to the next owner if needed.

Wow, that's cool. That's the first one I've ever seen. Thanks for posting the picture. Does the plate itsself get attached to the vehicle or is it a part of the paper document?
