rerouting emergency brake cable?
I switched to a double hump cross member from the original so as to install dual exhausts in my son's 78. The problem is that the original routing of the brake cable now runs under the crossmember on the drivers side. This is gonna interfere with the exhaust on that side. Has anyone rerouted the cable above the crossmember? If so how did you do it? Thanks, David

I have never had an inspection where they check the emergency brake.

Upgrade your cable system to 84+.
It will cost around $100-150 to get new parts. You can use your same pedal assy, but need new parts and cables for underneath and routing. The cable will run down the drivers side frame and split right before the rear axle. Much cleaner design then the 83 and older. I am not sure about the cable system in the 78's, but my 83 would be fairly easy to switch over to 84+, just costs money. And you will need to drill and bolt, or weld a tab to the driver side frame. Look at the details in the LMC truck catalog and you will see the difference. My cable system is all screwed up (parts are old and worn). I plan to upgrade (IMO) to the 84+ system.
