1981 Scottsdale - Hidden VIN locations

Hi guys, my father just purchased what we believe is a 1981 Scottsdale C10. The truck has been rolled over and the VIN is gone from the dash. We don't have a title for it, but in order to get one, we need to come up with the VIN. I know that there are VIN numbers stamped at various locations on the frame, cab, etc. For instance on a 1967-69 Camaro, you can usually find them under the heater box or down inside the cowl. On a Chevelle, they can be in the trunk lip and are on the top of the rear section of the frame. Where would they be located on a 1973-1987 truck?

My dad bought this truck from a body/mechanic shop ... the owner just left it there after he rolled it a year or so ago. The truck is in good shape and just needs the roof and pillers put on the cab as well as some work to the bed. The underneath is clean as a whistle.

Thanks everyone

I never found a VIN stamped on the frame of my 1979 C-10 , but on my 1987 Burb , the VIN is stamped twice , once on the frame , just under the driver's door & secondly , on the frame again , between the inner fender and the right front wheel ...

hope this helps...

Check the tranny and engine, if the numbers match you can make out the vin from it, just do the math and calculate your check digit, I did the same to get the original VIN for my 82 vette which was titled as an 80 after being stolen and retagged

For 73-80 it is a tag in the drivers door frame below the striker bolt.

81-87 will be in the dash visible from the outside on the drivers side.

I may be wrong but I think the 78-80 had them on the dash,
due to ID hole in dash for the vin.

My 80 is on the dash no plate on cab door frame
