Brodix vs. AFR

Wats up guys, as you all kno...i have been saying for a long long time I am buying afr heads. Well...we all have or own budget on wat we want to spend on heads lol. I called and chatted with AFR about pricing. And the competition Package w/ single plane intake..gaskets...bolts...everything...plus shipping. Is $3,100.56. My dad and I both agreeed that since e are splitting the head in have between the 2 of us....I dont want to spend 3 grand on heads. Now a good friend of mine has a pair of Brodix...fully ported..flowing at 340cfm. dont kno the details o the head its self but...for 1200 dollars w/ a single plane intake...it so8nds like s solid good deal. But...I am afraid that the brodix wont flow as good as i want them to. I kno there good heads but...are they 1200 dollars good. I am just oncerned about getting the most power from the heads. afr is outta the deal...but is brodix just as good...do they out flow most? Anyone on here useing brodix? Anyways...we'll prolyl end up buying them...just wanted to kno yalls opinions on the brodix heads.

need to know the specs on the heads. and more info about their flow numbers. if they have 230 cc intake runners and flow 340 cfm at .900 lift then they wouldn't be a good match for a cam in the high .5's low .6's lift range. you have to get something that matches the rest of your setup.

You gonna run a Cam that has .700" lift? I know of a few guys who switched from a 406 with AFR's, to a 434sbc with the Brodix M1 220cc Heads. Those are good heads.

There's a difference in approach by afr and brodix. AFR makes heads designed to be as bolt on and go as they come AND make good power, Most brodix heads (apart from the ones with fancy work already done to them) are aimed at the racer who does his own or has the heads ported. This means out of the box most of the brodix heads will have relativly smaller runners but very thick walls that you can do a lot of work to. There are many brodix heads that will outflow a 210cc AFR, it all depends on what head and the amount of work put into them.

If those brodix heads are in good shape and were ported by a pro then 1200$ may be a steal.

Also, make sure you compare flow figures at similar depressions and that they are tested the same way (I think AFR used exhaust emulator pipes, not open exh. ports)

What kind of brodix heads does your friend have? the track 1s are popular amongst weekend racers.

I agree. The reason why is that the rougher surface that the intake ports that are not polished will help atomize the fuel and air together better. Translation- better mixture better combustion and better running engine. On the exhaust ports you want them polished to help get the exhaust out as fast as possible.

Oh...I under the impression that the intake ports needed to be polished as well. Hmmmm....I'll be sure to tell him to do the Exhaust ports only then. I figured the polishing the intake ports did jsut that...bettter flow no rough spots...Isnt it....U wnat to get as much Air as into the engine and then to push it out as fast as possible? So Wouldn't polishing the intake ports help flow?....Kinda confused =/

actually the rough is not only for atomixing. The trick is that there will be a small boundary layer that "sticks" to the rough wall, air to air has less friction than air-metal thus decreasing flow resistance. It's the same reason the sharks skin is rough to the touch, it actually incereases the efficiency.

The exhaust port can be polished, the polishing will keep sooth from sticking to the port and chevrolet heads already have small exhaust ports in respect to cylinder volume and intake port size.

Exactly what he said Polishing the intakes tends to pull the fuel out of the airstream and make the fuel "stick" to the smooth surfaces as it travels.
