i gave my 71 4x4 long box to my son today...some day he will pay me for it :p ... ive always been a 71/72 guy but seeing all the nice ealier rides some of you guys have im going to go for 67 or 68 long fleet 2 wheel drive and auto.

are 67 and 68 pretty much the same?

can you get a 67 with a big back window?

ill be doing a little towing...boat, car trailer
would you go 1/2 or 3/4 ton?

small block or big? i have nice ones of each.

i have a turbo 350 would i need a 400 for big block?

ill want to convert to disk is this a major undertaking?

this will pretty much be resto looking inside and out except for maybe a nice set of polished mags. im sure ill come up with more questions...if anyone in pacific nw has a line on something like this let me know...i prefer a non runner no engine or tranny

67 and 68 pretty much the same. sidemarker lights in 68. 67 had optional big window. 1/2 ton should handle a "little" towing. Big block of course! Either tranny should work fine. Disc brake swap should be easy with a donor vehicle. I think i covered everything.

TH350 and a smallblock in a half ton should be fine to do medium duty towing as long as you set it up to cool the motor and trans right... converting to disk is not difficult, you can buy a kit from one of the vendors or go to the boneyard...

Nice choice for the year of the truck. The 67's with the big back window and with the long beds are a nice looking year of truck. But then I am partial as it is what I have. I also have a 68(going up for sale) parts truck. I like the smooth look of the 67's better.

Depending on how much customizing you wanted to do, and how much you wanted to spend, you could do a "heavy half" type of setup -- a 1/2 ton truck with 3/4 ton suspension.

Also, I'm not sure about in the 67-72 series, but in '75, when the original owner ordered a 454 for my 1/2 ton, they automatically upgraded to "heavy duty" suspension, making effectively a heavy half I think.

ive had the 71 for close to ten years (i think) and we built it starting with just a frame we scrounged up. everything is new drive train wise. springs brake lines engine tranny stainless bolts holding it all together..and on and on. both my sons learned to drive in that truck and both learned driving a clutch at the same time lol that was fun. anyway i want it to stay in family forever and its pretty much just sitting. so i (sold)gave it to my younger son (21) it still needs to have seat upholstered and box painted.
i told him if he ever decides he needs money more than the truck ill give him whatever cash hes put into it and take it back.

thanks for everyones comments im liking the idea of the heavy half. im thinking my honey is going to want me to haul dirt and bark at times for her gardening addiction.
