Nv4500 For Sale

Well, I need to raise some cash to buy a NV3500 trans for my
S-10 so as bad as I hate it the 4500 has to go.

I'll post a full description of it tomorrow and can send or post pics of it also.

It's out of a 92or 93 6.2 diesel 2wd one ton.
It has the lower first gear than the later versions.

I need to have $400 for it.
Or I would consider trades for a NV3500 if it's close.
I'm located in the northeast corner of Missouri.

Will this work with a 350 (I assume naturally that it needs a different bellhousing). Whats the OD ratio?

Alright guys, I finally got the pictures.
I'm just gonna post them here instead of emailing every body. I'm on dial-up and sending pictures takes forever.

Here tis;

And here's the only problem I've found on it.

That hole is where the detent plunger and spring is supposed to be. (I've got the plunger but not the spring).

Here's my idea on fixing it;
First the plunger would have to be shortened. Not that big of a deal cause there's plenty to work with and it would still have enough support once you get it back together.
Next would be to tap the hole for a NPT plug and then get a slightly shorter spring to make it all work properly again.

Another idea was to use a small "freeze plug", (cup plug?), instead of the threaded plug. After you put the plug in then drill a hole horizontally through the trans case andthe plug and put a roll pin through it, (so it wouldn't work loose).

Anyway, on to the description.
This is one of the earlier transmissions so it has the "LOW" low gear. I think it's 6.34:1 if I remember right.
It was a warranty trans from a dealership. The story I got when I bought it was that an old guy brought it in to be replaced because it made a whining noise in first gear. They told him that was normal but he raised hell until they went ahead and changed it out. The new trans made the same noise so he traded the truck in for an automatic truck.
I've had the top cover off, (and can take it off again for pics if need be), and it all looks good inside.
The shift detent was the only thing I could find wrong with it.
Here's the story on it;
I'm the guilty part that made the hole to get the detent plunger out. Why you ask? Well on the side of the top cover of the trans, (where the detent plunger is inside), there was a small dent. I don't know what made the dent but when it was dented it pushed the aluminum in against the detent plunger causing it to stick up in it's bore. I tried many different way to pull it out from the bottom side with no sucess until I had to drill the hole from the top side to get it out. Hence the hole.

What you see in the pics is what you get.
I don't have a bellhousing, but could use one if somebody out there has an extra.
If anybody has any questions I haven't answered feel free to ask away.
Sorry for the "novel"!

Yup, it will work with a 350.
And I may be wrong here so don't take it as gospel but I think a 6.2 diesel has the same belhousing pattern as the "normal" small/big block chevy.

Overdrive ratio is 27% I think. I'll have to look up the ratios again to make sure.
Maybe some one else will save me the trouble!?

I really want that. In 2 to 2 1/2 weeks I'll have cash from selling either 1 or both of my latest trucks ('67 C30 and a '58 1-ton apache). I'll take it if you can wait that long. I do have a bellhousing from a '67-72 with fork and throwout bearing but no z-bar that I have for trade towards this ($35 sound fair? thats what I paid for it).

How much to ship this to Delano, MN 55328? Assuming you can ship it. I'm betting it would be cheaper to get one of my friends with an econobox to drive there, but I want to find out anyways.

Also, just to make sure - it doesn't make whining noises in any other gears right? And it has the right number of splines to fit a 67-72 clutch disk?

Well, right at this moment I can't say I could hold it for you if somebody else comes up with the $ first. Nothing personnel, it's just that I need the $ asap so I can get a trans for my S-10.

$35 would be fair on your bellhousing but it won't do me any
good. 2 reasons; I already have a couple and it wont fit a NV4500. (NV4500 has a different patern than the "normal" chevy manual trans.)

Might work out something on that clutch fork though. Is it a stamped steel one or the heavy cast one? I could use a cast one.

I don't know what shipping would be cause it can't go UPS. I haven't weighed it myself but all the specs I've read say it weighs 195 lbs. dry. It would have to go some other way.
I did check Yahoo maps and you're 423.5 miles from me. My zip is 63445 if you want to check into some kind of shipping. I've never shipped something this heavy so this is all new to me.

We might be able to work out a halfway meeting point or something. (cost of gas).

I don't know if it makes any noises at all cause I never got to run it. That's just the story the guy told me when I bought it. I've been trying to figure a way to spin it so I could listen to it but havn't come up with any ideas yet.

It is 10 spline input so it should fit your clutch disc.

I understand the money thing. When I sell my truck I'll see if you still have it. What bellhousings will fit the NV4500?

No problem.

As far as I know there's only 3 choices when it comes to a bellhousing.

1. Factory GM 92-95 3/4 or 1 ton truck. (external hydraulic slave cylinder type clutch).

2. Factory GM 96-?? 3/4 or 1 ton truck. (internal hydraulic throw-out bearing).

3. And last Advance Adaptors makes a bellhousing for the NV4500 that uses the old style non hydraulic linkage. (easy but spendy!!)

I was going to use the first one and convert my truck to hydraulic clutch. (I guess I should say I am going to use the first one cause I'm still going to do this swap someday)!

There may be others that I don't know about too. It's been along time since I've did any research on it.

The clutch setup itself is the same as the older 3-4 speeds, (flywheel, clutch disc, and pressure plate).
It's just the clutch release mechanisim that's different. By that I mean the linkage or hydraulic system.

stelth2002,
If botboy doesn't want your bellhousing I might be interested in it. Like I said I'm still going to do the conversion someday.
Is it for the external hydraulics or internal?

botboy, I won't step in front of you on the bellhousing, (you will need one if you buy my trans), but if your not gonna but it from stelth let me know.

I think stelth was referring to the sm465 I want to buy from him not a newer bellhousing but I could be wrong. And yes, I do still want it. Sold my 4x4 sm465 last night for $86, should have money for you shortly!
