6 lug to 5 lug swap
I have my 72 5lug axles I want to swap over to my 68 rear end. What is my step by step process? I remember that the diff needs to be opened up to remove something, but I just can't afford any surprises when doing this swap.

Re: 6 lug to 5 lug swap
You will need to buy aftermarket 5-lug axles for the narrower 67-69 rearend.
Check Moser Engineering.

Re: 6 lug to 5 lug swap
You should sell me those '72 axles. They will fit my '70. Send me a PM if you're interested. I'm up in Fort Mill, S.C. and come to Columbia frequently.

Re: 6 lug to 5 lug swap
Well... That sucks. How about me swapping the entire rear end drum to drum?

The 71-72 rearend is 1.5" wider (total) than your '68 rearend.

Re: 6 lug to 5 lug swap
So if I was to swap the rear end, it would look like a clown car with the tires sticking out too far?

It's only 3/4" per side wider.

Otherwise you will have to use 71-72 brake drums. This will require the center hub of your 6-lug axles to have to be machined to a smaller diameter.

Re: 6 lug to 5 lug swap
Your best bet is to go with the moser 5 lug conversion. I wouldn't mess with redrilling anything. Although it would work.

Re: 6 lug to 5 lug swap
Let me thoroughly weight my options first before I make a decision. Because I really want to put some 5 lug cragars ss on this truck.
