How to set up pinion angle with 2 piece drive shaft

I installed a Dropmember and it raisedmy engine so now I need to get my drive line set back up. My question is how do I set my pinion angle with a 2 piece drive shaft and do I need to set this at ride height or what. Thanks for the help.

You will need to set it up at ride height, and have the engine/trans, carrier bearing, and rear-end mocked up to get the proper angles figured out. Shoot me a call tomorrow, and I will help you get it dialed in! 480-326-6303

Could you or anyone for that matter explain this in a write up? I haven't been able to find this info any where online.

I picked up a complete SD rolling chassis(deal was to good to pass up). So I'm running their front crossmember and rear wishbone super lift kit. I would think it would be the same as someone running your setup or anyone trying to set up a air ride system at ride height with the 2pc shaft.

Re: How to set up pinion angle with 2 piece drive shaft

Did you set your motor and trans level? Is the carrier bearing also level (inline with the tail shaft) or at an angle? What is your pinion angle set at ride height?

Ok. Thanks. What about the rest of it? So your keeping that 6 deg. when you set your carrier bearing? Are you setting your pinion angle at 6 deg up then?

I've always been told to shoot for opposite but equal angles when setting up the pinion angle on a one pc drive shaft. Just trying to make sure this is true with the two pc.
(-6 deg on the tailshaft/+6 deg on the pinion)

Re: How to set up pinion angle with 2 piece drive shaft

On a two piece drive shaft the #1 u-joint at the transmission output shaft needs a 1* true operating angle (if the tail-shaft is set at 6* drive-line #1 can be set at either 5* or 7*) either way gives the u-joint its 1* true operating angle and gives you some flexibility at the carrier bearing, the rear end pinion angle is set so that its centerline is parallel with drive-line #1.
good info here page 14 covers 2 piece drive lines>>>> http://www2.dana.com/pdf/J3311-1-DSSP.pdf

Re: How to set up pinion angle with 2 piece drive shaft

Anyone who would like to take some of the mystery of setting up drive line angles should take a look at this:
http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billav...aft/index.html
Its not a short read but will give you an indepth understanding of how everything should correctly be set up.

Fixit-p thanks for posting that link as it answers another question I had not been able to find a solid answer on.

To speak to a qualified translator please call 480-297-2621.

It's a lot easier to explain in conversation than in text.
