I rode in a car just like that many times. That LT1 pulls hard! Should be a good swap. Keep us updated. I agree about your young crewmember, mine is 2 1/2. He already is a car/truck nut!

You are going to really like the swap. I am getting great mileage, and have pretty decent power, too (it will kill the right rear tire at will.....). Look into getting an Alan Groves accessory setup so you won't have to notch the frame. I bought my truck with the swap done, but I have gone back through most of it. If you have any questions, feel free to give me a shout.

thanks for that info. i didnt know about that. where would it have to be notched?

Whooow!! This lt1 isnt a walk in the park. I beleive all i have left is the starter and knock sensor plug. Photos tomorrow.

If you are running A/C, it may hit the frame in the stock F-body location (lower right). The A/C compressor in the stock location also requires that the right side engine mount be moved back, to clear teh compressor. Sounds like you have it in though. Where are you going to mount the PCM?

The Corvette accessory brackets & A/C compressor are different and mount closer to the engine for better clearance on swaps.

I have put LT1's into a 91 RS Camaro, 67 Chevelle, 66 El Camino and a 68 Jaguar XJ6.

Great engine as long as you have a vented Opti and a good water pump.

Sorry, I sold the Elky in 2003 and don't have any pics of it handy.

Here are a couple I had on hand of the 67 Chevelle. Engine is quite dirty as the pic was taken while I was doing the body work. Big time sleeper with 12" front & 11" rear disc, huge sway bars, heavy springs, Koni red's and poly everywhere. I kick myself every time I think about having sold it. I did get $8k out of it in primer with the body work done but the interior needing completely redone so at least I didn't lose money on it too.

Lost all the pics of the 91 RS & Jag due to a hard drive crash. Can't find the back-up discs to save my life.

This is true. They are a little harder to find, and I think the Groves brackets are probably cheaper, to boot. They use a Sanden style compressor, and mount the alternator and a/c compressor up higher.

Make sure you snag the rear disc setup with backing plates before you scrap it. They sell for a pretty good price used. Calipers have the integral parking brake that makes the retrofit to older cars much easier.

yea i plan on take off the rear diff when i get to the salvage. im thinking about putting it in my regal.

It is quite wide compared to a G-body but all the guts will fit into the Regal's housing if you get a set of 28-spline axles. That is what I did with my Malibu.

Only the pinion bearing needs changed. For some reason the depth is different between a G-body & F-body but the bearings with fit either pinion gear.

The 4th gen trailing arms are a nice upgrade for the G-body too. Better bushing design so grab those too.

The driveshaft was replaced before I got the truck. On your LT1, what accessories do you plan to run? If you remove the A/C compressor, you can rotate the clamshell forward, and use it with the stock frame mounts in your '74. There is an extra boss cast in the block. (I found this out the hard way in a '94 Roadmaster). the mounts will be in the same location on both sides. IIRC, the 4l60E is really close to the same length as the TH350 with a long tailshaft, so your existing driveshaft may work, but you will need to use the yoke that corresponds to the transmission you are using.

I would snag the entire under dash & engine harness intact from the Z/28. You can sort out what isn't needed after you get the thing into the truck and wired up.

There isn't much length to the stock harness since the PCM is mounted to the inner fender so you are kind of limited as to where it will fit without a bunch of wire extension & soldering. I blended two harnesses together to get the PCM under the dash in the 91 RS swap. Quite a lengthy process but worth it to clean up the engine compartment.

They used a Painless harness in mine, and shoved the PCM under the dash. I moved it back under the hood, and mounted it on the left fenderwell. I would keep as much of the harness as you can.

I used the Painless harness in the the Chevelle. It was good quality but the wire routing was truly painful to look at. I made my own out of stock harnesses after that one.

Mine was a painful harness when I got it too. I think there was an engine fire, and the harness took the brunt of it. Looks nice now, though.

you guys are a great help. i will have a million more question during this process. heres another 1 now. do i need to keep the fuse panel.
