Check out this frame swap

I was scoping out a cab at a local yard and found this beauty. PO performed his own body swap, looks like onto a S10/small blazer frame. PO didn't waste too much time worrying about little things like body mounts or integrity. Original frame mounts were "extended". I was impressed by the homemade driveshaft hoop.

Wow that's a scary mess. Seeing stuff like that makes me think every state should have annual vehicle inspections

The scary thing is that there is more of this sort of work rolling down the road than most realize. I agree that every state should have yearly vehicle inspections, for a number of reasons, one of which is this sort of thing.

Agree on this.

Disagree with this. The sheriff's department or highway patrol (the ones that handle most road-worthiness signoffs for kit cars and specialty vehicles in most states) lack an understanding of what we do as enthusiasts and hot rods. While you may keep a few crapmobiles off the road, you'll do more damage to the hobby as a whole. Heck, DragWeek probably wouldn't exist if we start handing inspection rules out and make already overstretched law enforcement handle it.

I guess I could sign off on the idea if someone with a good reputation in the community (race officiator, existing tech specialist from a track etc) were handling these inspections...but the cost and backlog or resources for that would be extreme....let alone the political leanings of appointing such a job as a state employee. (But Hell, I'm qualified and would totally take it )

Re: Check out this frame swap

So here is the story with that truck. I got it a few months ago for $900. It had really good sheet metal on it and a really nice factory grill. It also had a good running 454 and turbo 400. Everything on the cab was shot. It had no title and frame was a 75 4x4. IT was very poorly done. I kept everything off it I thought was usable.
