5 speed overdrive in a 1969 c20
Ive got a 1969 c20 with the Muncie 4 speed on a 350. I've been looking to put an overdrive transmission in and was looking for some help from people that have done this in the past. I've heard that the t5 put of the S10 fits with no fabrication or drive shaft alterations however I'm curious I to the nv3500 five speeds that came out of the s10s with the v6 will also fit. I have access to one and I don't want to do to much extra work has anybody tried putting one of these in their pickup? And if so what was needed to get it to fit?
Thanks a lot I appreciate the help, Derek |

Re: 5 speed overdrive in a 1969 c20
The T5 is a weak trans especially the non world class. The NV3500 is a stronger trans, however neither are C20 strength in my opinion. If you use it as a 3/4 ton truck you would be much happier with an NV4500

Either a tko 600(if you have money and want more of a performance transmission)or a nv4500 if your going to use it as a truck. A nv4500 will be my choice unless I plan on racing.

I think in your case, a ranger overdrive torque splitter is a viable solution.
Or at least its one that I would consider. http://www.advanceadapters.com/categ...-splitter/236/

Re: 5 speed overdrive in a 1969 c20
I had a 5 speed behind a v6 in a 84 S15. I always considered it just enough trans for the v6. In no way in the same heavy class as the old granny 4 speeds. IMO

I didn't use a hydraulic clutch but here is how I did it using all of the stock mechanical clutch parts.... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=673588 I don't know what year NV4500 you have so that might make a difference. The one I used is listed in the thread. LockDoc
