1966 Gasser Build
After years of racing Turbo Buicks, I sold out and bought this farm fresh 66'
Now I've got the itch to do a drag and drive, so I'm gonna convert this and run the gasser class at Sick Week, if I get accepted It's a base 66' with an L79 327 out of an Impala SS. I've kept everything period correct so far and I'm gonna try to do that thru the build.

Re: 1966 Gasser Build
Truck had CPP dropped spindles and 2 inch dropped springs.
Went with stock height spindles and Moog 6454 springs. I don't want to commit to a straight axle yet. And if I do a drag and drive week I'd rather do the 1000 mile drive with stock style front suspension. Swapped to the CPP 5 lug front rotors and rear axles ![]()

Re: 1966 Gasser Build
1964 L79 327, Holley 750. It has a pretty nasty roller cam with comp valvetrain. Heads have been ported. MSD billet distributor and ignition box.
Currently has a saginaw 4 speed, but I'll be installing a TH400 this summer with a PTC converter. I picked up a era correct Edelbrock tunnel ram with two 390s that had been sitting on a shelf for 50ish years. ![]()

Re: 1966 Gasser Build
Looks like a good build. What rear tire size did you go with? They look like they fit the wheel well just right.

Re: 1966 Gasser Build
What brackets did you use to sling your alt on the passenger side? I have early double hump heads without the bolt holes. I think I will keep mine on the driver side, but need to mount it low like yours.

Re: 1966 Gasser Build
Alan Grove will have exactly what you need. I'm using his Driver's side Alternator bracket, and Driver's side Power Steering pump bracket. They fit perfectly out of the box.

It's a CVF kit, they had the setup for no accessory holes

Re: 1966 Gasser Build
Pulled the 12 bolt and sold it, and removed the factory trailing arms.
Ordered a Quick Performance 9 inch with the pads already on it for a C10. Also ordered Moser box tube trailing arms and multi position brackets for the stock xmember. Installed CPP coilover kit with double adjustable Viking shocks I'm getting pretty good at getting rivets out...

Re: 1966 Gasser Build
Make sure that you qualify for gasser class with the stock style front suspension. I saw that Mike Finnegan almost didn't qualify for gasser class when he took out the straight axle out of his 55 Chevy and built his own upper and lower A Arm setup.

Re: 1966 Gasser Build
The mustang 2 style conversion is not allowed, I think they were on him because of the rack and pinion and the fact that it's not a stock tri 5 setup. He was still allowed to run though.
This one is all stock and I'm not using coilovers so it would be fine for B/Gas, according to the rules.

Re: 1966 Gasser Build
The funny thing about doing a gasser pickup is that the ride height looks stock except for the little front tire up front
