63-72 Chevy P/U Rear Shock Mount System

Rob is there a reference point to measure from for the frames that don't have the 5/8 hole you had in the frame on the shop truck? I noticed Andy said his didn't have one. I have a hole in mine but I'm not sure it is the correct one. In the case of there not being a hole is there a a specific angle the shocks should be mounted at to have proper action? I have be told that Monroe shocks don't perform well at an angle in excess of 30 degrees, apparently the valveing is affected. You thoughts are appreciated.

The rear specs I have are as follows. From the rear tip of the frame to the rear axle centerline is 34". From the rear tip of the frame to the center of the 5/8" hole is 17 1/2". So, from the axle centerline back to the center of th 5/8" hole is 16 1/2". The first two numbers are for shortbeds. The third measurement, 16 1/2", is good for any truck.

How thick is the spacer block on the trailing arm ? about 1.5" ? and was this done so you did not have to raise the bracket on the crossmember or just for travel clearance on the trailing arm when it was lowered ? thanks, Kieth

I think you are refering to the lowering block. It is 2" thick, although they are avail. in 1/2", 1", 1 1/2" also. I like to use a block for the firt 2" of lowering, this aproach keeps the spring as long as possible for a better ride.

what about the brackets on the crossmember for the trailing arms, should we still raise them up ?

Got the shocks truned around and glad I went back under there. I had left the top shock bolts loose for some unknow reason.
Camera died I post pictures once it charged up again.

Yes, I would still move them up, and/or flip them.

Thanks Rob, I am in the process of doing this as we speak, will use the 2x2 block, am getting ready to order your shock relocator kit, and at the same time we are moving the rear axle back 1.5" and adding a cpp notch kit. Busy Busy

I would order your fatboy panhard rod but cannot afford it right now. may add it later. We are also slamming a 65 LWB Fleetside so too many irons in the fire.

Just went a short trip and it seems to be a smoother ride. Had to cross over some R/R tracks and it seemed to be a lot smoother!

Drove the truck about 60 miles today and it rode great. Back roads and interstate both.

Not sure about that. the 73-87 frame is a little narrower than the 63-72, but not much. I haven't tried this yet.

Yea from the last few times I have drove it I can tell it's a lot softer ride. It's not Harsh like before if the rear end hit bad bumps in the road. Thanks again, great product.

Is there any benefit for stock height trucks? I have a 70 C20 who's serious hauling days are over. I am trying to figure out the best way to improve the ride.

Try and find a stock height spring that is softer. (Spring Weight)That is the only thing unless you lower it.

Lately I have recieved several messages asking if there is a larger discount on these parts. For the short answer, no. Forum members already recieve a 10% discount. It is unfair then, to offer a lower price to some as others have already paid the advertised price. In the big picture, it is to no ones benefit that we sell parts at a loss. - Then we would go out of business, and not be able to help further the hobby. How often do you ask for a better deal at your favorate resteraunt? or at Sears? We are a 'real' business, not a swap meet. I understand the current economy as well as anyone, but if you want well made, American made parts, there is a price. I am sure that some of our competitors will copy these mounts and have them made in china soon enough, then you can get the low price that you want. Have a great day, buy American.

Well stated, nothing makes me madder than people complaining about the state of the US economy as they drive around in some sort of foreign car, buying everything from china for the cheap price. I love to buy American whenever possible even if it costs a little more.

I feel you. It seems any business thats related to a 'hobby' gets treated that way.

Rob I ordered my relocation kit Monday, can't wait for it to arrive. When I install everything which includes shocks, relocation kit, 2 in blocks and 3 in springs should I flip the trailing arm mounts to correct any pinion angle issues? Will it benefit me in any way?

Rob I got my relocation kit installed, great stuff. While I was under my truck admiring your parts and my labor a thought crossed my mind. I'm sure you get enough of the arm chair engineers and our ideas but here goes anyway. What would happen if you made the lower shock brackets "flipped" over to reduce scrub line issues? Most of your design work is done it would mean extending the shock mount hole out to clear the trailing arm and if it was just a little wider the part that currently hangs down would be flush up against the lower edge of the trailing arm. Let me know what you think.
