Harry was that HP engine for the 85 back ?
I have an 88 350 TBI long block with Edel intake and quad carb in bad need of build or replacement so I am interested in what you bought and what is available to replace mine. My 88 won't make 290 hp without buying more heads, etc. Crate engines are appealing.

I replaced my stock 307 with the bottom of the GM Performance Engines 350 with 290 horsepower. Everything under the hood is new for under $4000 (engine mounts to air breather). I finished the install over Christmas and the engine start on the first turn. Is it making 290HP? It's a huge improvement over the 307, but I have not pushed it since I am still using the stock Signaw 3 speed. Hopefully a new transmission is not too far off. Harry

In the last 3 yrs I bought 2-350 GM crate motors from Pace Performance. The 1985,(1190+tx), replacement went into an 83 half ton that was originally a straight six and a 4 bolt,(1832+tx), for a 1989 half ton. They did not ask for core either time. I filled out the paperwork for the 3 year warranties.

I went to Bruce Lowrie in Fort Worth and the 290 HP performance motor was 1599.00 and the warranty on it was 12 month/ 12000 miles with no core charge. The stock motor was 1299.00 with a 3 year/ 50,000 mile warranty with a 100.00 core charge. They couldn't tell me the HP of the stock one. They thought between 200-250 HP. Also there would be no shipping charge on either motor.
