Gen 2 blazer tank in gen 1?

Has anyone put a 30+ gal tank out of a 73-91 blazer into a gen 1? Also anyone have a pic of the factory mounts for the stock tank. All my parts are missing.

I thin it has been done, but the tank may hang too low under the frame, but under a 4x4 it should be fine, just make sure you get a tank from a carburated blazer/suburban (suburban tank will fit too)

Re: Gen 2 blazer tank in gen 1?

Apparently that is what I have. It in the K5 when I bought it. I dropped the tank to clean it out and it fits in there pretty good. I added some thick rubber strips on top where it hits the frame. That is probably the only place to really worry about. I will attach some pics as soon as I get a chance.

Some pics would rock. Apparently the PO removed tank and crossmembers that atttached it

Re: Gen 2 blazer tank in gen 1?

The PO did this. Looks like a 30 gallon, the float and pickup assembly has 5 ports. 1 big to the filler, 1 to the filler vent, 1 going to the engine, 2 plugged up. The guys at the parts counter said this is what came in a mid 80's Suburban and Blazer. Anyway, the picture isn't great, but I am away form home and it is the only view that is already on my laptop. I can take a few more in a couple of days. Its hangs down some, but doesn't look like a big concern for moderate wheeling. I guess someone that is serious about rocks might have a problem with it. Damn the 'ol Critter looks pretty ratty from the back! needs a pipe bumber!

Re: Gen 2 blazer tank in gen 1?

I've heard it's a popular mod to get the 87 & up tank when going TBI or TPI due to the fuel pump already being in the tank.

This thread is good timing, I'm thinking about one for my TPI swap but concerned about how low it will hang for wheeling.

Keep us posted on your findings.

there is a crossmember that is forward of the tank that the straps are attached to, and then of course the bolts in the back that you tighten to hold everything in place. I am assuming that this crossmember is original, but it could be that it was added or at least moved to make the tank fit. I'll study it a little more when I get a chance to look in person.

As far as the '87 and up tank that VTBlazer is talking about, I believe the only difference between that and mine is the sending unit. Tank should be the same.

Re: Gen 2 blazer tank in gen 1?

my buddy has the tbi 30+ tank and it is an easy swap but even with all of the 6"+ lift and tires he has, he has still managed to pound the bottom in a little.
