As long as it's not in the locked position, you should be ok.. I usually put the key in, turn it to the unlocked position or acc, put the paper clip in the hole, then while pressing and holding the paper clip in I turn it all the way to the left. It sometimes takes a little finessing. It will move pass the locked position, then you will be able to pull out the cylinder.

BUT.. if you don't have the key, it probably won't turn that way..

I lost the keys to my '55 Chevy and it did the same thing. So, I took it to a lock smith and he made me a key for it.. IT cost about $15 and took about 20 minutes.

Other than that, all I can think of, is too break the cylinder. Some of those old cylinders can be broken pretty easy..
