If your running HEI, I believe they run out of spark right around 45-5000rpm or so. Try the MSD HEI intensifier kit. With this kit a Blaster 2 coil & 6AL amplifier is used instead of factory stuff. I would think this would be easier than going back into the motor & if it doesn't solve your problem it's still not a waste of time because you'll rule out the ignition(as the prob) + upgrade it @ the same time.
