Re: Tubuler A Arms Upper

Of course they did! IMO I would rather have the ball joint bolted in on the top side... isn't that the way EVERYBODY else does it? Maybe it is for a reason?.. Probably a good one!

Send em back and get the Air Ride arms... worth the extra $75 for sure.

Royo-
Not trying to hate on you, but next time it pays to do a bit more research. We all thought you were going with the Air Ride arms.... if we knew you were going with the CPP arms we could've warned you! I know you're frustrated, but it could have been avoided.

Re: Tubuler A Arms Upper

I'd definitely send them back.Any company that lets an issue like that slide and then explain it away by telling you it's okay to install it different from the intended way doesn't deserve the business.
BTW sorry to hear of the bad luck.I've been in that position as well and it isn't fun.

Re: Tubuler A Arms Upper

I was wondering the same thing crazy_longhorn ... once they are bolted in, then they are "bolted in."

i don't understand all the hoopla either. if its that big of a deal, then take a die grinder or a rat-tail file and open up the hole for them to mount from the top ...

ive allready done the pass side but you also have to cut the metal at the front of the a frame and then grind out the hole for the balljoint to fit ... also what the big deal is cpp didnt tell me that the balljoints dont fit and then said bolt them on the bottem if the bolts break you crash. if its on the right way the bolt only hold it in place it willnot come out of the a frame look at the pics

Re: Tubuler A Arms Upper

Royo,

Just wondering why you said you were going to buy a Porterbuilt Dropmember and didn't want to use the Art arms? I recently purchased a Dropmember from Nathan and planned on using my stock control arms. After reading alot of people responses about the Art arms I started liking that their arms offer a better allignment. Plus the biggest selling point for me buying the Arts was right in the sales page for the Porterbuilt Dropmember. It said the Dropmember was designed around and to use them. Theres a TLC life lesson for ya! When in doubt talk to a profesional.

Re: Tubuler A Arms Upper

wow first off my understanding is that the dropmember can be used with any aframe including the stock ones with a little work . Also i didnt say that i didnt want the art arms i said i could,nt see paying 326$ bucks for them if you want them cool . porterbuild never told me that he could get the arms it didnt dawn on me to ask him he is a busy person with his shop and all allrighty then

Granted, the issue of bolting the ball joint to the bottom side of the control arm can be argued all day long (with good cause) that it is suitable. I just don't believe it is the best way to do it. The main reason that the upper ball joint is sli through and bolted onto the TOP of the upper control arm (in the majority of applications) is that in case the hardware securing the UBJ to the arm fails, the ball joint and the arm will not completely separate. If the UBJ is bolted onto the bottom of the arm, and the hardware fails... arm and spindle are completely separated making for a scary ride.

Royo- I am sure you're tired of everybody's comments on this subject by now! Quick question for ya, and then I will do my best to stop kicking a dead horse... what did the tech guys tell you on the arms? Are they designed to have the ball joint bolt to the bottom? Or is it just that some fit and some don't?

Re: Tubuler A Arms Upper

Hello all they would say is that it is ok to bolt the balljoint on the bottom side . That the bolts would hold being 5/16s and grade 8. I was going to send them back but ive allready modifyed the pass arm. had to cut the edges off and grind the hole bigger . I didnt want to fool with cpp anymore on shipping sometime down the road i will sale these arms and get the right onesfrom airride or get them with your dropmember It didnt bother the tect guy at cpp that the balljoints were going to be bolted that way said he would drive it anywhere right

Re: Tubuler A Arms Upper

A good friend of mine bought the CPP arms for his 1967 C10 and his Moog ball joints fit perfectly. The set that I bought were way off and the passenger side was the worst of the two. Take a look at his truck.
