Air bags on a 68

I have cut coils in there now and I like the height it is at. The rear coils are uneven now from sitting so long. Instead of putting new coils in there I decided to go with the Bags.

The front should have spindles as the outside edges of the tires are worn away.
I'll get them when I get new tires and rims. (The last step before paint.)

I spent $50 on the rear kit just incase but I guess I can return it because I have coils back there.

What do I need as far as Bolts go??
Do they need to be bolted in there or do they just sit like coils do??

the rear bags get bolted in, top and bottom. I used grade 8 bolts, nuts washers and lock washers for everything in my setup.

for the rear bags, you will need either a 3.5" or 4", 3/8" bolt for each bag. This bolt goes up through the trailing arm into the bottom of the bag. make sure to read the sticker on the bag saying to only torque them to 15lbs or so. for the top of the bag, you will need to drill holes through the frame to mount them. I had to go out and buy a series of drill bits for my 1/2 drill ranging is size from 9/16 up to 1". you will need these for the air port hole for each bag. eat your wheaties that morning cause drilling those holes sucks.

the other holes to mount the top of the bag to the frame are 3/8".

What did you get for air fittings? I went with all brass compression fittings from the local frieghtliner place. After about 4 trips in one day, i finally had everything i needed. They aren't cheap, but are much cheaper than the pop-loc ones you see on SD.com.

oh yeah, for those long bottom bolts, you will need a couple big washers there so the bolt doesn't get sucked up into the trailing arm

S D sent me the fittings and air line. I have only received the bags so far.
I am hoping the bracket kits have the bolts and hardware. If not I have a fasten all at the end of my street with all the nuts and bolts I'll need.

Thanks for the heads up on the drilling day.

Now how about the front ones? Drilling? Bolts?

I'll tell you on monday. I'm finishing my drilling in the rear (hehehe) this weekend and gonna make an effort to get most of the front done as well.

from what i understand, you have to drill holes through the plates that mount to the upper control arm, and that's it. the bottom cup mounts to the bag and free floats. Oh, you will want to get your cups cut down. if your's are like the ones i got from SD, they are about 3" tall. get them cut down to 1". that will get you another 2" of drop at no cost.

i think you should use slam bags. go with he7's in the front and re7's in the rear. i've been using slams on all the 1/2 ton trucks i've bagged. where in WA are you located?
