Re: Independent Rear?
Mr Finnegan,
Good to hear from you on here. I dont know how much narrowing would cost!! I am hoping that working with Porter we will figure out the lift and not have to worry about narrowing anything. Can you post some pics of your rear, these guys would love it!! Thanks Brad Walker www.gaugemagazine.com |

Re: Independent Rear?
Mike, who built your front upper and lower control arms? I am talking to Barely Legal Fabrication about building me some with Uniballs. Do you like them, do they work good?

Re: Independent Rear?
No need to call me "Mr.". lol
Mike will do just fine. narrowing the axles is cheap. Building new ones out of better material is spendy. the stock C-4 axles can be narrowed by any competent driveline shop. the a-arms were built by my buddy Mike, who works at Carli Suspension now. http://www.thecarlisuspension.com/ he'll build more sets if anyone wants them. The uniballs work great. No noise, good articulation, and they'll last much longer than bushings will. I haven't quite figured out the picture posting deal but if anyone wants to see more, there's more at www.sporttruck.com

Re: Independent Rear?
Ok guys, I talked to vette2vette.com and they said $2000 for the Dana 44 and $700 for the Dana 36. Is the 36 enough to hold up to my mild 350. If not I might start looking for a Ford as much as I hate to!!

Re: Independent Rear?
Well it wont be a drag car. It will be more of cruiser/show car. Are there plenty of aftermarket parts available for the 36? I would probably have to change the gears.

Re: Independent Rear?
The Ford 8.8 is a good rear end and can handle the horsepower a mild small block will send it. You can find them in the Thunderbirds, the Expeditions, and I believe there are a few Lincolns that have em. Like Hoopty mentioned, the track width is way too wide in the Expedition... new control arms and axles will solve the problem.
On the front end (if you go with the vette) just have your rotors redrilled to a 5x4.75 bolt pattern. That's what we did on Dino's 63 panel and Dino's 66 SWB. You will also need to have the rotor cone turned down so the wheel center will fit over it. The Dana 36 will do the job for you.

Re: Independent Rear?
What do you do about gears on the 36? I will be running a 29" tire! Also is the mounts the same for the 44 and 36? The guy building my backhalf has one I might use for mockup. I just cant get him to sell it to me.

Re: Independent Rear?
H1 Hummer with geared hubs! Maybe that more lift than you are looking for though!

Re: Independent Rear?
Anybody ever use a 88-97 Thunderbird/Couger setup? These cars are almost given away anymore.

Re: Independent Rear?
i believe the t-bird/cougar irs is similar to the Expedition. I'd assume the track width is smaller though, which would be good.
here's more pics of mine: http://www.sporttruck.com/featuredve.../photo_01.html -mike sporttruck.com
