Sorry I usally am over on the 73 - 87 truck side but seen your thread. My son on his 78 k-10 used the billet doors that you can get after market. You can see in the first pic that he had to creat the flange to hang the door open and hinge from, the other pic shows the result on the other side. I know its not a k5 but its pretty much the same area to install in.

I finally found the pics of the hidden fuel filler door behid the taillight assembly
THe truck is a 50's model with a newer model bed on it. It's been a few years since I took the pics so I can't rememberthe exact details
