Great because the 700 has the lowest first gear for auto tranny's so you can take off like you had a 350 with 373's, and take huge advantage of the overdrive but they sell a kit that holds the tranny in 3rd longer so it wont hunt between 3rd and 4th which will kill the tranny, I beleive summit makes it

Re: Tranys... What kind and Where to get one

I don't have it yet i'm debating using it too. www.bowtieoverdrives.com i believe is what it is sells them. i've looked on ebay and found them for a pretty good price. it all depends on if i have the short tail or long tail on the th350 if i have the long tail i wont have to do any driveshaft mods so i'll go ahead and be a pretty clean swap. if not i'll wait because i'm in iraq and i'd be having family run the truck around getting it done up for me

Re: Tranys... What kind and Where to get one

i ran a 700r4 in my 66 with a tbi motor and 3.07 gears and it lugged. when i switched to 3.73 i had a great fuel milege increase. so i would say 700r4 with 3.73 or 3.42 gears. also the 4l60e is suposedly the exact same as the 700r4 accourding to the tranny shop but the 4l60e requires a computer to run it but an after market computer is available to run just the tranny so it can be put behind a carb engine. also the 700r4 was used in trucks vans s10 vettes blazers tahoes and suburbans. very widely used tranny. hope this helps.

If the TV Cable is set up correctly it won't do this anyhow.
You don't need a kit specifically for that (unless it is a TV Made EZ "style" kit you are talking about, which just sets up the TV cable correctly).

Just if you use the lockup.
I didn't, and don't regret it a bit. A friend of mine has it hooked up on his to a toggle switch and says he never uses it. He either forgets to turn it on, or turns it on, and forgets to turn it off, so its useless to him.

So - No, there doesn't have to be ANY electrical stuff.
It is a pretty simple swap really. You can reuse you lines to run to your new cooler, shorten driveshaft (let a shop do it, less than $100), plus they will balance it), and move the crossmember back.

i understand that the lockup is is like a cluch. so if you are slowing down and the lock up is on, then there is constent presser on the engin. is that right?

and with yours you have the lock up on all the time?

Re: Tranys... What kind and Where to get one

I may have said it wrong -
The converter clutch lockup is controlled by wire - I am not using that.

You are right - if it is locked up, and slowing down then there is constant pressure on the engine.

I don't have the clutch lock up wired in at all. It gives you about another 200 or so RPM drop, but I don't get that. I just don't have a need. I drive about 10 miles daily - I wouldn't benefit that much from it.

So, I am just benefiting from mine from the point of it being an overdrive, and that's it.

Re: Tranys... What kind and Where to get one

well that makes more sence. will talling to my friend at work he is telling me that i have a 350 tranny as well as a 350 engin, but i knew about the engin... so i am thinking, what the hell. lets just re-build both. my engin and the tranny. both 350's and maybe i can change the tranny gears and the dif gears. at leat i will know the they both are strong for the next few years. then i can save my money for other projects on the truck. anyone think its a good idea?
