Can a 4WD frame be swapped over to 2WD?

I found a 4WD frame for my crew cab project, But I want a lowered 2WD. Can I swap a crossmember/suspension off a 2WD, or is the front of the frame rails different??

Re: Can a 4WD frame be swaped over to 2WD?

i read a thread recently where a guy wanted to convert a 2wd truck into a 4wd and they said it would involve drilling but it could happen so i would think that the reverse is also possible the original poster on that was Shamil and it was within the last week if you want to view the thread

Yes, it can. From what I understand, both sets of holes should be there. Find a newer frame to take the suspension off of. My 91 parts Suburban the front suspension is bolted not riveted in.

Check out Gringoloco's blazer project. It use to be a 4x4. Then converted to 2wd. Now getting a Porterbuilt "Dropmember". It's possible. You just need a donor 2wd truck for parts.

If you weren't so far away, I'd swap you frames. I'm looking for a 4x4 frame for an 84 long bed. I have a 2wd long bed with 3.73 rear gears, new brakes, rotors, calipers, and lines up front and pretty good brakes out back.

Re: Can a 4WD frame be swaped over to 2WD?

I'd just look for a 2wd frame. They should be easy to find The one ton frames are bigger (heavier duty).I'd look for a longbed 1/2 or 3/4 ton 2wd chassis and just lengthen it and use it..
bhunt31,you must not be looking hard enough. There's 4wd chassis all around here for sale..

I know it, but I've gotta concentrate on a Vortec 350 right now, so the 4x4 chassis will have to wait.

haha, I dunno bout that, cuz I know I'll run anything that doesn't have parts falling off of it driving down the road...sometimes we'll even run that...so long as the parts aren't necessities, like, say, wheels and tires.
