Red face Do I have a posi or locker??

I have a 3/4 ton 10 bolt rear. I would like to know if it is a posi or locker. I took the cover off and it doesn't look like other posi's I've seen on 1/2 tons or cars. Looks like it has smaller spider gears next to the ring gear. When I have both wheels off the ground and turn one the other goes th same direction. Also when I lost traction in wet grass it left two tire tracks. I would post pics but haven't figured that out yet.I was told by po that it was a 4:10. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!Chuck..

True LOCKERS arent the norm for street vehicles so you most likely have a posi style rear differential.

Posi,Limited Slip, and other names are used for basically the same style of rear differential unit.

An open diff will have spiders too. Look for a spring loaded clutch pack in the middle of the carrier, between those smaller spider gears.

Re: Do I have a posi or locker??

That is a Power Lock (just another name for a POSI) in a Dana 44 or (most likely >>)a Dana 60 from what I see. The "PowerLock" had a 2 piece case with 4 spider gears and 2 side gears and a "TracLoc" had a one piece case with 2 side gears and 2 spiders. Both units use clutches and plates for the posi operation.

Re: Do I have a posi or locker??

I think Dana rears in these trucks are cool. I built a narrowed Dana 60 for my street/strip Nova before I sold it..........it had a Power Loc and I bought a TracLoc with 35 spline side gears for better axles.Very strong rear axles......very strong.

Re: Do I have a posi or locker??

Well I've just sold this one that was in a rolling chassis from a 72 3/4 ton for 250. So I don't know if I shorted myself or not but I needed to get it out of the yard. The guys coming from the Atlanta area to pick it up so I guess its worth the trip,
