I have a glass filter before the fuel pump on my 68 cst,and what I did was make sure it was in a spot were nothing would hit it,but I also cut an old piece of radiator hose and trimed it down to wrap all the way around the filter, and took two hose clamps and clamped them around it,you can't even see the glass, and two check the filter to see if it needs replacing, all you have to do is take the clamps off ,it is under the cab so no one can see it,and it has never given me a problem, and it is cheap insurance,if it does hit something it want break.

I use filters before and after the pump, too, and took the tiny one out of the carb. Never had and filter problems with this setup!
