Re: Show me your projects and builds

Here is my 1976 that I bought for $1,000 over the winter. I need some updated photos. I have lowered the truck, added power brakes, replaced all suspension bushings, tierod ends (inner/outer), center links, pitman arm, idler arm, upper and lower ball joints, wheel barings, rotors and drums, pads, calipers, hardware, wheels, tires. Basically everything under the truck.

Re: Show me your projects and builds

Here's an update on mine. Just finished my 350! Got the rest of my parts that I needed to finish it up today, so here it is!

The build went like this:

350 4-bolt main block .030 over

#1182 Forged steel crank

Brand new GM powdered metal rods (had my machinist set up for floating pins)

Speed Pro 2 valve relief hypereuectic pistons

Melling 55HV high volume oil pump, new shaft with steel sleeve, pickup welded on

487 head castings that fellow board member Larry May gave me. Had them cut for 2.02 and 1.60 stainless steel valves, some port and polish work, and Comp Cams valve springs locks and retainers installed.

Comp Cams 268 Extreme Energy Cam. 224 degrees duration @ .050 lift intake and 230 degrees duration @.050 exhaust. Valve lift .477 intake and .480 exhaust respectively.

Comp Cams double row timing set, lifters, pushrods, roller tip rockers.

GM Performance Parts dual plane intake manifold.

Holley 4 barrel carb with vacuum secondaries. Plan to rejet later.

Ceramic coated shorty headers.

Lotsa and losta chrome and polished aluminum parts!

Enjoy the pics. ...Joe

I like your Burb. I've been wantin to bag mine but the back is a pain in the a$$. that and I use mine as a daily driver. Start a build thread so we can see how you do it.

This is what I'm workin with, I'd love to put it on the ground!

Re: Show me your projects and builds

when i bought it for $500, a little rough running but nothing draining the gas tanks, cleaning the carb, new oil and all the filters couldn't fix...she fired right up and has been a sweetheart since.

I don't have any new pics (yet) but i have replaced the cab corners, corners of the wheel arches and a chunk of the bed floor. Right now shes in her first coat of primer and i'm just trying to get some time to block it and lay down another coat, block, paint, clear and drive her.

Oh and I'm still collecting parts for the engine rebuild that's in the near future.

Re: Show me your projects and builds

This was my dads truck since I was born. Now it's my 4 year project. There has been school, jobs, marriage and now a brand new baby boy. It seems like it will never get done but I'm still grinding away at it.

I'd say you're doing quite well at your current pace!

Look'n Good!

Re: Show me your projects and builds

Well my pics are in my sig, but its always fun to show from whence it came to what it be now.. Currently its waiting for me to put plates on, hook up some gauges, swap a cam and intake on the 454, and set the TV cable correctly. Future plans are dropped spindles and springs in front, dropped shackles and a flip kit out back, because right now it has the ghetto blue wrench drop and its sitting on the snubbers. Also gonna replace the box sides, cab corners, rockers, and doors.. then repaint it again..

Still its a beater truck, and if it didnt get 10mpg due to the smogger 454 it would be driven already.. I need my truck running.

From this, with a Pontiac 400 I stuffed in when the 305 died...

Then some sanding and grime removal..

Stuffed a grimy old rat in it..

In bright light before the mirrors when on.

The paint, a bit of buffing, and putting all the stuff back on..

Re: Show me your projects and builds

Current project truck.. 1974 Chevy Crew Cab from AZ.

Previous owner put the cab on a std cab long bed frame, cut the floor in 2 spots where rails bump up and had intentions of a short bed truck.

I have since replaced the missing floor pan pieces including fabbing up 2 sections of the crossmember to bring the cab back to stock.

Plan is to build a CC stepside 4 linked lifted truck on rockwell rears.

Just finished media blasting it on wed. Im in for the long haul now!

This pic is how I found the truck with a complete interior, nose, doors etc..

Re: Show me your projects and builds

This is just after I blasted the floor, firewall, and rockers on wed(the areas that are a pain in the A$$ to clean up by hand)

Will be starting on the full tube chassis shortly..
