Re: Ebay - Chevy truck widower selling their whole lot

I've got an idea how to collect donations. I've been racking my brain to find an idea of how to receive money in a way that everyone could see their donations and that they were counted. It sounds like Liz isn't really up to the PayPaling the board idea. I don't really feel comfortable receiving money in my PayPal account when nobody really has proof who-sent-what. Here's the idea. Let me know what you think.
Saturday, I'll set up an eBay auction in the eBay Motors Parts and Accessories category for "a picture of Dawn's truck." With "number of items available: 500" each for a buy-it-now" of $10. If you'd like to donate $10 to dawn, buy one, if you'd like to donate $100, buy 10, etc. I'll give you feedback that says: thanks from 63 & 64 Bowties. You leave me feedback with your forum name in the text of the feedback, like: Thanks from tdave00". That way, everyone can see who donated what by just viewing the auction. I'll throw in $100 right off the bat. And I'll donate fees from the ebay and PayPal fees, that way if you send $10, Dawn gets the whole $10 and I pay the fees. Of course, I'm not really going to send anyone a picture. Then, once I get maybe $1,000 or so I'll get a money order, scan it, post it here, and send it to Dawn.

Like the Guiness guys say, "Brilliant!" If you make it lower than $10 you might get more participants. (Some of us are living on military pay checks.)

No problem. Whatever works / whatever it takes. I'll check to see if there's a minimum ebay and paypal fee to see what the "net" would be for $5. I just don't want to have to pay out $2 in fees to get Dawn $5. With ebay's new fee structure, that could be the case too.

Re: Ebay - Chevy truck widower selling their whole lot

Sounds great!! but I want a special picture!!! haha. Maybe someone could photoshop up a cool pic of dawn and her trucks, make it small enough, then when you donate you get the pic and can put it in your signature. Ahh never mind that is way to complicated! I like your idea better!!

Re: Ebay - Chevy truck widower selling their whole lot

Due to the legalities and everything else involved we are unable to do the donations officially through the site. If someone would like to set up a fund etc. It can be done fairly easily. If you need any advice or questions on how to do it please don't hesitate to ask.

Re: Ebay - Chevy truck widower selling their whole lot

I think Bill has a Pretty Good Plan, No need to Complicate it By Trying to Do Pics, Would be a Lot of extra Burden & Expence in Mailing out a Pic...............

Could Possibly Have one Listed in the Auction that we could save if we Desired.....

Good Job Bill...................

I wouldn't do it on eBay. They are going to take a good chunk of change from your donations.

I also think that if you were to do ebay, you would want to clear that idea with them. Would stink to sell 8 and then have them tear down the auction on you.

Re: Ebay - Chevy truck widower selling their whole lot

Well Guys & Gals, i went to see Dawn yesterday evening. Man, she has a ton of stuff, the pic's Bill posted did not do it justice. Unfortunatly, it is to much for me....logistically-wise. It would require multiple trips, at least 3-4 days of moving parts/trucks. Then the sorting/storing. It is just a big project & i have to pass on it.
But(But you say?), Yes but, a feeble idea has somehow crept into this pea sized brain. What if Dawn picked a weekend & had a 67-72 Chevy Truck Flea Market. A few of us that are close could go there there on the Fri before, drag the stuff out and help her tag/price it. Then Sat & Sun, help her sell it & help load.
We could advertise it on Craigslist, here, & some of the other forums. Heck i think that word could get around quickly if we put our minds to it. This way she gets her $ and gets to see the stuff go to those that want it in a weekend.
And while we are there i would like to come up with a way to get her trailer under-pinned. She got ripped off by a local who removed what she had, took a deposit then vanished. Winter is comming & pipes will freeze if that does not get done. She needs help with other things, but that is on the top of her list. Anyway, y'all kick it around........

Re: Ebay - Chevy truck widower selling their whole lot

Okay, here's a link to:
The eBay auction basically Dawn's fund drive. I've got it set up in $10 increments, so buy as many as you can afford. For those who can't quite afford the $10 and would like to give less, please just mail it to Dawn direct. Her PO box address is listed in the trucks for sale section here, about the second page I think.
Like I mentioned in my earlier post, when you buy one, leave me feedback with you forum name mentioned in the feedback, and I'll do the same for you. I listed it for the max of 10 days, so it's ends Sept 9th. Let's see if we can help Dawn out.

MotorSeven, I didn't mean to skip over ya there buddy. I like your idea of a get-together. If you TN folks can work it out, I'll do my best to make it too. I'm about 4 hours away.

Just sent this email to Dawn's daughters:

Hey guys, just a quick note.... wanted you to take a look at something click here
And if that link doesn't work, go to eBay and in the search box type in 220275273973
I know, I know....your mom's gonna be mad. But, there were people here wanting to help her out and couldn't really figure out a good way. So, I set up this auction for donations. Obviously, I'm not selling a picture of your mom's truck. Who would pay $10 for an emailed picture? It runs for 10 days, and at the end, I'm gonna send her a money order and all the names of the forum members who donated.
take care,
Bill

Props for getting this done. I'm hoping we can at least help her get her house under-pinned. Sounds like that's more important than the trucks atm.

Guess it will always be famous for the Law School murder. That's where it was, right? Or am I getting it mixed up?
I'm giving you eBay feedback and forum reps right now.

Just bought a beautiful, 1967 Chevy Stepside photograph. These are super rare, only about 500 made.

Bill - thanks for doing this.

Yea, that would be great. Keep me in mind. I just retired Friday after 21 years with Shell Oil Company. So, I got plenty of time on my hands.

Here's the progress so far. $90 in just a few hours. Not bad at all !!!!
