Sharp!
Side question, where did you find motor mounts? They look shiny and new in the pic.

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Pics

w314speed,

The Spicer (Dana) 60-35 was the heavy-duty option axle in 1/2-ton GMCs. I'm not sure if they were available in Chevrolets, I've never seen one in a Chevy. It has the five-lug hubs and is a semi-floating design.

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Pics

Stepsides were the way all GM pickups were made pre 1958. It has a very functional and nostalgic look. Easy to work with this body and the side spare mount is clever and cool looking.Very nice example.

love the truck erl that is what i plan to have my 67 done like but i am going with a 455 buick engine out a 71 riviera and my truck will be blue

the big v-12 that was mentioned is actually a 702ci that was made from 2 351ci v-6s bolted together and if i am correct was never installed in a vehicle but was used for stationary purposes

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Pics

BTW, the V12 not 2 blocks bolted to together. It has 1 block, 1 crank, and 1 cam. It did have 4 separate heads, manifolds, 2 intakes, and 2 carbs, 12 pistonds and rods all from the std V6's. Very unique and cool engine.

The famous B-702 is a custom car designed around the GMC V12. It is on display at the Peterson Automotive Museum.

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Pics

Thanks for all the good comments. I will answer a few of the questions.

The tires are Power King bias ply. I do not like them and have purchase Firestone M/T's to replace them.

The HEI is from a 78 Buick V6. I designed all the conversion parts and posted them on 60-66 GMC web site.

The 478 V6 has a 3.86 stroke and the 305, 351, 401 V6 has a 3.58 stroke.

I am running GM 427/454 rings in the 305 with custom Arias pistons.

I had the motor mounts redone by Steele Rubber Products for around $75.

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Pics

Has gotton my vote for years now as the best truck on the board. The only thing that would make it cooler would be if it were a 67.

I came back to look at this again after a couple of weeks. This truck just gets it for me. This is the epitome of a no nonsense work truck. Plus I am parial to long bed step sides (check my avatar).

Nice work. Good to see you left the V-6 in it, too.
