Re: Hard to start

1969 K/10,

You say it has a hard time starting - what are the symptoms? Do you have to give it gas, does it sputter, backfire, etc?

Pump it and start cranking. it doesn't even fire until a good amount of cranking.
Usually it is one hit and its started, but when its warm, it struggles to light.

You pump it when it's warm? If that's what you're saying, try NOT pumping it after it's warm - you may be flooding it.

Re: Hard to start

I went through the same problems with my 10.6:1 406. I likes a lot of advance and has longtubes, so what fixed my problem was getting a good heat shield and then getting a 900amp cold cranking battery. The new battery helps turn the truck after the compression has built up. The truck starts immediately.

If your truck is warm and it starts but kind off sounds like it is lean/stumbling then it is a choke issue.

Re: Hard to start

Carb could be heat soakin too. May need a good phenolic carb spacer.
May want to check the mechanical/vacume advance too and make sure they're not sticking.

Its pretty cold out to be heat soaking.
I still have no idea whats going on. I'm starting to blame the edeljunk carb.

Re: Hard to start

Yup I had an edlebrock once, only once. They never seem to tune out.
What process did you use for the idle air mixture, I found by mesuring vacume seemed to make it run the best. Hey just remembered, pull those mixture screws and clean them and their seats out good, I remember having to do that frequently to keep it idling right.
