Make sure your engine is at the proper rotation, so the shaft is as far up in the block as it will go, makes it easier to assemble the fuel pump

Another little neat trick with the fuel pump rod is to remove the 3/8" bolt on the front of the engine just to right of the fuel pump, you can see the rod when the bolt is removed, and install a longer bolt but just tighten it finger tight against the pump rod that will hold her for sure.
