which intake?

i have a 355 with stock rebuilt heads, a mild cam and an edelbrock 500 carb on my 8. my stock intake is leaking vacuum a little bit. i have an edelbrock streetmaster single plane intake in my shopthat i just sandblasted and it looks really good. i figured since it already needs new gaskets i should throw the edelbrock on but people have told me that iit would just make my motor run like s**t since its basically stock. i figured anything is better then stock but i could be wrong. tell me what you think. im not looking to build huge power with it. i was mainly just wondering if it would hurt my performance at all if i went with the edelbrock...?

Re: which intake?

For a street cruiser, you're better off with a dual plane intake. Single planes are designed for high revving, big cammed engines...more for racing. I'd recommend an Edelbrock Performer with a 600cfm carb for you setup. 500 seems a little small for a .030" over 350.

haha, not to dog the BB because I have one, but a buddy of mine had a 305 in his 71 tunnel ram and 2 4's, 4.11s, th400. He was able to cut consistant 13.20s.

Re: which intake?

The RPM is a little too much for a 305. A big carb might work with it. A performer will do better for a street truck.

Re: which intake?

gchemist is right the RPM is too much for the 305. I was going to recommend the performer eps #2701.

Re: which intake?

*****in85, the single plane manifold will probably make it run worse than the leaking stock one. If it's just a gasket leaking on your stock manifold I'd just replace the gaskets & call it good if you don't have money for a dual plane manifold.

3r!c84, the 305 is basically a 350 with smaller pistons & crappy flowing heads. The Performer RPM is a great high rise dual plane manifold, but I think I'd go with the regular Performer on the 305.

Re: which intake?

Oh, since you have it bolt it on! You'll have to tune the carb properly. The Qjet will work because it has a vacuum secondaries. You may need to change the vacuum spring. You don't want the vacuum secondaries to open until high RPMs. The small q-jet primaries are an advantage over other carbs with the RPM on a stock engine.

Re: which intake?

You can use a vacuum guage to tune it.
http://www.centuryperformance.com/tu...e-spg-148.html

http://www.centuryperformance.com/tech-zone-spg-25.html

http://www.secondchancegarage.com/public/186.cfm

Set your timing first, then use the vacuum to tune it. Use only Felpro gaskets. find a swirl four hole adaptor. The swirl adaptor will help with low end RPMs and torque.
