your factory column should work you just need an overdrive inicator for everything to look correct

Re: steering column

The 89 column is slightly different than the 78 column. 73-83 had the wiper switch on the dash, starting in 84 the wiper switch was moved to the column...

Re: steering column

yup. hes right. my new crew cab that i just got had a tilt column swap and now i have two windshield wiper switches and i dunno which one actually works but everything else looks like it fit just fine. Lots of wires comin out of the newer column though.

Re: steering column

does any1 else know anything about the columns ? What is my best bet ? Should i just put a shifter on the floor? The 89 column bolts up on the inside of the firewall and the 78 column bolts up on the outside of the firewall. So what do i need to do to get tilt and also an indicator for the new 700r tranny auto? thanks steve

Re: steering column

The 89 will not work due to the body style change. You need 73-87 and a 73-83 is direct replacement as stated above. 84-87 will work you will just have an extra wiper switch unless you decide to wire the one on the column up, 88-91 blazers and crew cabs will also work the same as the 84-87. The column from the 89 half ton will not work.

Re: steering column

The column from a 88-91 suburban is the same as a 88-91 blazer. The PRNDL21 indicator screws into the dash cluster. You will need one from an overdrive truck from 81-87 pickup or 81-91 blazer or suburban...
