Your overload leaf doesn't support the suspension until you reach a certain weight. Removing it won't change the unloaded ride any and will drop it the thickness of the leaf itself.

Very true in stock location. Note that the OP said "I have a 2000 silverado 1500 with flip kit with overload leafs". With the spring pack "under" axle removing the overload spring no longer lowers the truck.
