Re: 66 slammed hearse

I agree with Jon in part. It sounds like a fuel problem to begin with. But the latter doesn't sound too good. Have you tried spinning #1 to TDC and see where your distributor is at, and your rocker arms as well? Do you have spark at all?

If it is a points dist. I would check the end play in the dist. That will affect points gap. I had it happen to me. It was running fine then all of the sudden it ran like a timing problem. Checked the dwell on the points and readjusted thinking something just slipped. A few miles later doing the same thing. Found the dist shaft wore out in the housing. replaced dist and ran great.

Re: 66 slammed hearse

well between my newly aquired back injury and the flu, I havent got much done on the burb. Also I've had some issues going on at the kd ranch. Got home off the truck at 3:30 am saturday morning to find my house was 29 degrees inside, later to find my gas had been shut off for no good reason. So with the help of Jared, we got it fired back up. Then, to make the weekend even better, I got a notice from the good ol IRS to tell me im getting audited! Oh goodie! the problem there is that during my fantasticly enjoyable divorce, my ex wife had a fire and burned almost everything I had. Shop paperwork, tax records, reciets, clothes and a bunch of other things. So basicly I'm good and screwed, but I will keep you all updated

Re: 66 slammed hearse

KD,

Here is an experience that I had. After the new motor in my 68 upon the initial run to break it in. I'm running it about 2500rpm everything sounds good then all of a sudden BOOM BANG POP CLATTER SPUTTER Dead. Of course everything in the world went through my head. FTLOG what did I do or not do? That was the question.

What I found sounds very much like what you may have. IF it's an HEI You need battery voltage to properly operate the ignition system. IN my case two problems took place, an unsecured ground wire and short to header pipe. Here is how it played out.

The unsecured ground was for the alternator, with out this ground no battery charging was taking place I was running off battery. OK no big issue until starter wire got against the header tube then all my juice left in the battery went racing out to try and burn a hole in the header..LOL Once I identified said problems everything worked out flawlessly....

Just a couple things to ponder while trying to work out your issues with the Hearse...

Regards!

Re: 66 slammed hearse

Guess who's back, 'ol KD's back! Well its been awhile, over 3 months since i've posted or even been on the board for that matter. Not much has changed in the KD ranch as of late. The hearse is still dead in the back yard, the IRS still sucks !#$@%#@, I'm still a trucker. The good news is that I'm going to fix the hearse and my bro in law just came into a FAST 70 c-10, so I'm betting he will become a member of our fine board very soon. We all know I'm not great with posting pics, so I will get my in house photogragher on the job asap. Its ugly, kinda in primer, and scary fast. As in runs like a scalded dog fast. So since you all know I'm alive and kickin still, my back is still messed up, which slows me down a bit. The IRS stole $2882 from me for no real good reason, which I'm good and pissed about. Obama screwed me out of my $8000 tax credit for buying a home, so that was a waste of time and money. Ted nugent is still not a presidental candidate, so I'm still not voting. My poor old dad is still out of a job because of this crap economy. I still have a job, if thats what you call putting in 20 hour days and someone give you some pennies and expects you to pay all your bills.

The best news I have is I'm finally a full time daddy, I got full custody of my little boy. After thousands of dollars and lots of stress, I pryed him from the evil clutches of his mother. He's starting school in the fall, and he want to be a trucker like his daddy. Boy I hope not!

I finally am starting to pick up the pieces of the life I had that crumbled into roadside dust as I fly down the asphalt jungle losing my a$$ at every corner. Its starting to resemble something worth living again and I can finally get back to enjoying my classic chevy iron, instead of worrying if I'm going to have to cut it in half to prevent a visous woman from stealing it from me and my son. The hearse is safe and sound inprisoned in my compound like backyard. Thanks to my friends in montana, The RLC family has taken me into thier family and treats me as thier own. Mr. RLC has hooked me up with much of the air system to get the dragger laid out and bagged. I swapped a notch from another board member, Daverod, who is a really cool feller himself with an awesome project truck.

I seem to be going off in mindless ramblings now, so I will close now. Hello again to all of my friends, Kd's back in business!
