Re: McGaughys rear big brake kit arrived

Here's another option I ust ran across. It's the new Baer Brakes "Iron-SPORT " system.

The site says-"Baer Quality and Performance @ a $595 Baer Direct (Racer Net) Price "
LINK
And more importantly- All required hardware and user friendly instructions to ensure a true bolt-on installation

Re: McGaughys rear big brake kit arrived

Ken,
thx for the link. More options are good.
Maybe we should make a rear disk kit thread. I know I have been looking at my options for some time, and only chanced upon them by other members when google failed me.

Re: McGaughys rear big brake kit arrived

I have been planning on doing that for the Suspension Forum. I want a mini-FAQ section for front disc brakes, rear conversions, big brakes, etc.

The caliper in the pic looks like a early 2000's Taurus or Mustang rear caliper.

Re: McGaughys rear big brake kit arrived

I'm sure it is an OEM caliper, and it just might be a Ford unit. My main concern is that it does have a built in E-brake.

I like the 13" rotor on the McGaughys kit but if it don't work it really doesn't matter.

I have a vendor friend that is checking in to it for us.

Re: McGaughys rear big brake kit arrived

Ken,
I can not find where to buy the baer kit...
show me...
on a side note... I did get my new auburn (not eaton) posi and 3.73 gears installed, picked it up after work. Too bad it was real wet out and I had to come straight home to pack for our vacation or I would have made some burnout videos.
Maybe when I get back week after next.

Just saw that I never responded to your question. Google "Baer Iron-Sport" and you will get several hits. Look here on Jegs site- LINK

Re: McGaughys rear big brake kit arrived

Has anybody looked into using the mid 90's Impala SS rear disc parts?

They are 12" rotors with a 5 on 5 bolt pattern and use the internal drum brake parking mechanism.

Chances are that the caliper bracket will bolt right up to a 2-wd truck backing plate mount flange and since they are 5 on 5 the axle hub should be the same larger diameter as the truck too.

They even use the nice PBR full floating caliper like on the Vette and Camaro / Firebird.

If I didn't have a 14-bolt this is the route I would be taking to get rear disc.

Re: McGaughys rear big brake kit arrived

From staring at the McGaughs rear kit for the longest time a few months ago and hanging out on the pro-touring site.. the rear rotors look like corvette rotors. with johns picture (pcmcobra) with the dual pattern on them.... definantly corvette rotors. as far as the iron sport ones from baer, those look just like LT1 brakes and calipers.
Im still waiting for my brackets for my brake conversion..

till then,
Clint

Those rotors are for the front of a C5 Corvette with an additional 5 on 5 patterned machined into them. Raybestos Part #56700PR, Right Front, Cross Drilled and Slotted.(I know, the ones pictured are just cross drilled). Raybestos Part #56701PL, Left Front, Cross Drilled and Slotted. OR Part # 56701, Left Front, Plain and part # 56700, Right Front. These last 2 are $42.79 each plus shipping from Rock Auto.
Technically they are 325mm in diameter.

Kore3 also makes them with the 5 on 5 pattern already added...

The Caliper is from a 1985 Cadillac Seville rear with parking brake.
