Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
I hated my updated bed. Got rid of it and I am working on a 72 fleet side now.

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
I like the original beds myself. I don't think that the body lines on the new ones match or the wheel well openings. The only thing I don't like about the original bed is the lights and chains. I changed both on mine.

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
No offense to the guys with these beds. It just seems so out-of-place. Both the orange and the red truck are beautiful.......but something just ain't right.

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
Well I went with a newer bed because of economics. Newer ones can be had a lot cheaper than an original. With that being said, I am going to attempt to install original step fenders and step on my newer bed. I have all the parts. I feel that it would be easier and cheaper this route than to find an original, beat all the dents and rust out. It may look like a@@, but we wont know till someone tries. My 2 cents.

I really like the look of the period correct LWB stepsides......call me crazy but they just look really good to me, especially on the 4x4s.

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
My 68 is almost identicle to "72chevpu" same color, same newer bed. It looks great, came that way from previous owner, gets a lot of compliments, however if i can find one i really would like to replace with correct year stepside.

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
I think the correct bed is the way to go.Just my opinion, but I think the newer beds on these trucks look ugly. They take away from the beauty these trucks came with.

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
I have posted this on here before, but the 80's FORD stepside bed looks much better on our trucks than the late model chevy bed. The wheel openings are round, rather than squared off like the chevy beds.I dont have pics. but I have seen them and they look pretty decent. They might be a little harder to find in the junkyard than the gm beds.

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
I like the way mine looks with the late bed on it. It lines up and looks good. But it is also my truck so I'm not going to say it looks bad.

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
Brother,
I think that truck looks sharp.......Did the holes line up or did you have to modify it? There is a guy in Sierra Vista area of AZ that has a newer year than that, it looks pretty good. I met him at a couple of shows. Smitty

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
Not to put anyone down that likes them , I just don't think the body lines match very well and the wheel arch and flare are totally different. I like the original style. Just my opinion

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
I had to make my own brakets out of 2" square stock to get the bed to match the body lines of the cab.

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
Original for sure, later beds are ok, but like an earlier poster said the wheel openings just dont match up.

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
Buy the 67 bed ,prime it and put a piece of treated plywood in it for the Time being and ride looking good.Save your money and buy the fleetside you want or build you one with goodmark sides. You can always sale the 67 stepper to a board member and recoup that money when the time comes. In my opinion the new model beds are ok but the only one I have seen that I really liked someone got 2 fiberglass 72 fenders , cut out the wheel arches and grafted them on the newer bed the way Big O described. It made 100% differance in making it look factory.
