Re: Questions on Changeing intake manifold gasket is this normal?
Big props for handling the job yourself, it gives you a lot more pride in your truck to say that you did it yourself. We all had to learn sometime and now you can show someone else.

You'll be fine. Its good to change it just to be on the conservative side of things.

Felpro Z1212 is the correct gasket btw. If you still have problems with it leaking than I would suspect the gasket. Edelbrock doesn't even sell a steel core gasket and the 7203 Summit list as steel core is incorrect its not steel. Also Chevrolet didn't use steel core intake gaskets on 69 Z28's (w/ aluminum intakes) either btw if I an not mistaken. Last edited by HOGDADDY; 04-30-2010 at 02:20 PM. |

Re: Questions on Changeing intake manifold gasket is this normal?
If the gasket was bad to begin with I'd imagine you were getting coolant in the oil to begin with

Just use an Edelbrock gasket for your manifold, guaranteed to work.

I guess some mechanics will use whatever is available and maybe he didn't know any better I dunno. Ask Edelbrock or any engine builder for their honest opinion on the matter but if you really think about it how well will an aluminum intake compress a steel gasket? Also sometimes steel head gaskets are used on aluminum heads but it will indent a ring on head where the steel is around combustion chamber and of course the bolts on heads are torqued much higher than intakes too. Re: Questions on Changeing intake manifold gasket is this normal?
i have always used the ones you used. I also have always had iron heads, and some sort of aftermarket aluminum intake. I have never had a problem.
I have used them on the following setups my old mans stock 350 in his 67 my 383 stroker in our 75 corvette my 454 with a blower in my 70gmc I dont think youll have a problem at all |

Re: Questions on Changeing intake manifold gasket is this normal?
Like I said ealier from my observations the non-steel gasket is the preferred choice for aluminum intakes but please don't take my word on it do your own research here.
Hopefully I have at least raised some concerns here and am only trying to share the best method here for my fellow truckers. |
