My hinges are getting worst every time i open the hood, im afraid of creasing the hood and want to get some new hinges. I priced them through truck and car shop in orange county and it will be 120 for hinges and new springs plus tax. You guys know of anywhere i can get any good ones cheaper??

Re: Hood Hinges??
Have you tried lubein them up? most likely they are dry. the main reason why hoods start to crease is not so much the hinges are warn out. but because they aren't maintained. Also, you can get the hood stiffeners which will help.

Re: Hood Hinges??
I've lubed them up before and it doesnt change one bit i also want the new hinges because the back of the hood will not go down all the way. I put some NOS hood hinges on my dads 68 and they work like cutting butter with a knife thats how smooth i want mine. Rite now its like chopping logs with a knife just aint working out ahahah.

Re: Hood Hinges??
I'd get these NOS GM hinges... They're like a night and day difference to ANY repo hinge. I had 2 different sets of repo hinges on my 78 and both sets were loose and just like my old worn out hinges... they really were a waste of money...
Then I bought a set of the ones below. WOW i never knew theses hoods would spring up the last half of the way by themselves. These GM NOS hinges are worth every penny. I just can't speak highly enough of them. and classic parts is a good place to shop. excellent customer service in my experience and I bought a whole lot of stuff from them. I actually have these $95 http://www.classicparts.com/1973-80-...tinfo/38-475L/ $70 http://www.classicparts.com/1973-80-...tinfo/38-476R/ Last edited by 78 Chevyrado; 06-05-2010 at 03:33 PM. |

Re: Hood Hinges??
i would like to get some nos ones but considering my pockets are on lint it seems better to save for the repos but then again nos parts are always better.

Re: Hood Hinges??
You could try these repos from brothers. Not bad a $40 each.

Re: Hood Hinges??

Re: Hood Hinges??
There is. I found a guy online (in Virginia) that rebuilds hinges. I emailed back and forth and found I'd only be saving about 40 dollars over the NOS hinges I ended up buying.

Re: Hood Hinges??
What we need is somebody to machine a shouldered bolt that could be put in place of the factory hinge pins. Fit the hinges with bronze bushings like the door hinges so they are rebuildable and make it greasable through the bolt.
If I had a garage to put it in I could bring my lathe back from my father in laws place 450 miles away and do this myself. Nothing worse than having the knowledge and skill to do something but no place to do the work or the tools to get it done. Talk about frustrating.
