biga,
I would definitely go springs. they are cheap. plus since you want to keep the load carrying characteristics of the truck, new springs compared to the oems (for the most part) are stiffer and contain higher spring rates.

Thanks, that helps a lot. I can now understand why springs would be better. Cost a little more but will get the job done.
