Why am I leaking feul?

Hey guys. I put my old holley carb back on this weekend, the edelbrock was second hand and just was not working out. Anyway, when I start it, it runs for about 5-7 seconds then fuel starts coming out of the air horn for about 5-7 seconds then it seems to stop. Then when I shut off the engine Its like smoke or vapors or something coming out of the carb for about 10-15 seconds. Any help would be great! thanks

Re: Why am I leaking feul?

Yes, your float is stuck open. Either the float is bad or the needle and seat need cleaning or replacing.

Oh yeah, also the two adjusting screws on the sides of the front floatbowl doesn't seem to change idle when adjusting them. Why is that ?

Re: Why am I leaking feul?

You'll need to square away the flooding issue before you can judge the idle mixture adjustment screws. With excess fuel going down the venturi you're not going to get anything meaningful out of adjustments.

Re: Why am I leaking feul?

Well imagine that! took float bowls off tht floats seemed to look fine.I did bend tab on the front float just a hair for a better shutoff though. Put back together. Started up and............. NO MORE FUEL LEAKING !!! Thanks guys. And when I shut it off no more smoke or fog or whatever that was before.
