Thanks Allan, I will use a mechanical pump. Stock will most likely work. I will let you know.

Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010

I might have a set of the 'Chevrolet' embossed chrome short style v.covers (newer chevy performance style, not old vintage script). I had them on one of my motors @ some point but they were in good shape & would help your clearance isses.

Heck, for that matter, I think I have a 'short' set of those plain chrome ones like your using. They came on another sbc & were pretty decent as well.....

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010

Thanks Scoti. I think that I will be fine with these. I know at some point I will be changing the firewall to clear it and smooth some things out anyway.

Last night after posting I found some energy and time to do a little on the engine. Now I have another issue that I will need to decide on. In the pictures, I took the time to mock up 2 different headers on each side. On the passenger side both fit well and did not rub on anything. The pictures show that one set hangs down much futher then the other. The one set hangs 4.5" below the frame rail! The other set only hangs down about 2.25" below the frame rail and reaches further to the rear.
Passenger side Set 1:

Passenger side Set 2:

On the Driver side I had other issues. Set 1 fits perfect, but hangs down too far. Set 2 fits and does not hang down too low, BUT up top, the #5 tube HITS my brake lines coming down from the master cylinder. I wish I had a Driver side header that fits like Set 1 up top, but hangs down like Set 2...

Driver side Set 1:

Driver side Set 2:

I had to force the lines over and back a little to even get the header to line up with the mounting holes. The lines sprung back in place when I took the header out. My issue is do I look for other headers that fit the way I want, or do I just make new lines that clear these headers? These headers (Set 2) came off a 68 Camaro, but the owner of the car has no idea what brand they could be. He got the car with them on it. He now has a set of Headman's on it and the look similar to these. These are rusted pretty badly in places and might even have a few holes in them. The Set 1 headers are Flowtech, but I cannot find a part number on them. They are in OK shape and would probably clean up and be fine, they just hang way too low.

I might just cut up Set 1 so that i does not hang so low, but then I would not be able to buy a new coated set later one. My buddy with the Camaro is going to get me some pictures of the new Headmans on his car to see if Set 2 looks like them and might be older Headmans...He just had shoulder surgery and can't drive the car to work for me to have a first hand look at them on his car...

What do you guys think?

Use the set that offers the best ground clearance & tweak or re-make the brake lines. You did good once, the 2nd time should be better right?

Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010

Well my buddy has no idea what the headers are, except the fact that the came off of his 68 Camaro with a 350 and no AC. I did some searching on SummitRacing.com, From the pictures they are most likely Headman Headers. This is the set that he has on the Camaro now:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HED-68278/?rtype=10

Size and Shape wise this is most likely what Set 2 headers where without the coating. Set 1 headers most likely for Chevy c-10 trucks from 68 up, from pictures of the Flowtech's on Summit's site.

Looks like I need to save my lunch money for long time to get those....

I will just patch up the free ones that I have for now and go with that...

Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010

Made a little money today at the swap meet in Canton. I might order a set of shorty headers for a chevelle off eBay that I have seen fit my year truck. I am going to use some of the money I made today for this project and see if I can finish the engine installation.

Re: Project Old Blue, 1965 C10, Rebuild Version 2010

With some of the money I made from the swap meet this part weekend, I ordered these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT

There has been a thread on here in the 73-87 section and from my research I believe that they will fit and work well for my truck. Total cost to me: $148.84 shipped. I should have them by mid next week.

Once I have them, I will confirm that they fit and then I will rework my brake lines and complete the brakes.

Once all that is done, my next project is to get the ignition complete and test fire the engine with a temp fuel system...
