Re: 72 Blazer and a 402...

Gary, the big block is in the same position as the small block was and uses the small block mounts.

jarso44sr, the fire wall was not just smashed back with a BFH, looks like it was tapped back with a large punch or something clearance the area behind the distributor. The dual shocks are nothing special just longer bolts to fit the additional shock.

Re: 72 Blazer and a 402...

7D2N,
Nice big rock install. I'm in the process of putting a 402 in 72 blazer and I know you answerd many question but I have two more if you wouldn't mind?
1) if you had a small factory points dist. do you think it would clear?
2) Did you have to touch the fire wall at the right valve cover?
I,m hoping to have the motor in the chassis by end of January and I would like adress the cleance issues before I re-install the body. I look forward to hearing from you

Thanks,
CORSAIR

I think it may have been easier to bend or force the firewall back behind the distributor, just guessing the modification was done by PO.

The distributor/points setup that came with the 402 is no larger than the HEI,the valve covers are the short style and are very close but can be removed and installed.

I think it may have been easier to bend or force the firewall metal in just the location behind the distributor, just guessing because of the dents there,it was modified from the PO.

Re: 72 Blazer and a 402...

Thanks I was going to use the small block motor mounts and move every thing forward around 2" so I have more room for the big block.

2 wheel drive the motor sits further out then the 4x4 yoy should have no problems with not having enough room.

Does that setup look strong enuff, I was thinking if I made another frame mount, similiar to the first one, but just longer to support the outside of the longer bolt

Re: 72 Blazer and a 402...

jarso44sr, the blazer has only had light duty since I have had it, so as for the shocks as they are mounted now is probably not the best. Mounting bracket are made that mount to the frame and goes to the out side of shock and the bolt runs through both shocks. I saw them on a members blazer (a blue one)that had a build thread going.

The brackets on the axle and the frame for the dual shocks are definatly not strong enough without extra braces on them. When I aquired my blazer the setup was very similar cept the fram mounts did have an added bracket where the axle did not. Turns out the axle brackets fatiqued at the outer weld then cracked rite down the center on top. it just took some welding but what a beach it was.... I turned it back to single shock setup after that.

Re: 72 Blazer and a 402...

I took the gas tank out to see if I have a wiring/ground problem, wires look good and after everything is undone the gauge still reads 1/3, will the gauge stay at fuel level when disconnected?
