I believe he's referring to the pin that keeps the axles in place.... THAT pinion shaft. That must be removed before the c-clips can come out.

Thanks SCOTI and BAMA63 the steel punch did the trick,with help from the BFH that shaft had metal build up on it and was hanging up, it was bad enough I had to get the cutting wheel on it twice
