If you replace it with a junkyard column it too will likely need the bearings replaced.

I replaced the upper and lower bearings in my '65. Takes a couple hours at the most assuming it doesn't have steering shaft wear. Look at posts #25 & #26 in my build thread: Lakeroadster's Build Thread
