removing water stains from glass?

so my 72 has water stains/marks that don't come off the glass, mostly on the rear window. is there a trick to get rid of those or am i just gonna have to suck it up and buy new glass? the glass on this truck is great, no cracks or broken glass, just the water stains/marks

Re: removing water stains from glass?

60ratrod... check out this link as it might provide a solution to clearing the window before you have to purchase a new one.

Also, here's a quick search within the Detailing section using "glass" as the search word:

Re: removing water stains from glass?

hey thanks man. i read the getting scratches out of glass thread and was dreading the possibility of having to use a buffer since it seems to leave depressions and low spots in the glass. i'll look into the chrome polish/cleaner and bar keeper's friend. that's a name i haven't seen since the mid 90's

"Hopefully" one of thsoe products will assist you in cleaning up the windows, before you have to use a buffer or replace it all together. Let us know what works and what doesn't.

Re: removing water stains from glass?

I have used the bar-keepers friend on my glass and it is great,I take a green scotch pad and water with a little B-K on it and scrub it down. Then wipe it off with a clean towel, rag etc.

I agree ^^^^^^^^^^^^^

also you can just wipe them with 0000 steel wool....I suck at cleaning windows and this works great..nothing wet just scrub them and you can feel them get claen and smooth

Re: removing water stains from glass?

I have buffed my glass with a polishing compound, like 3M's Finnesse-It and a large buffing wheel and removed water spots.

Re: removing water stains from glass?

I second the 0000 steel wool. I have used it several times and as piecesparts said, I buffed it afterwards with Finnesse-it or mirror glaze #2 fine cut cleaner.

Re: removing water stains from glass?

Some hard core water stains are not something sitting on the glass. They are actually chemical etchings into the glass and hence almost impossible to get rid of. I had a 69 that I bought form a guy that let it sit under a sprinkler for a whole summer. I worked and worked and worked and finally took it to a glass guy for advidse. The side and back glass was so bad I had to replace it.

Re: removing water stains from glass?

I use a sharp razor blade, but you have to know what your doing or youll end up scratching it but it works awsome. I clean windows and glass as part of my job and i use razor blades on all of them.

Re: removing water stains from glass?

the boss has me cleaning up his 64 f*rd falcon he picked up. he found it sitting in a barn where it was parked in the mid 80's. he had me do a quick cleanup with 0 steelwool and went back over it with 00. the glass was pretty gnarly when i started. it cleaned up really well. i wouldnt b afraid 2 use it on my 65 or my 62 olds.
